Right Side Of Right Wrist Major Pain
so the right side of my right wrist i noticed hurting about 4 hours after my last football game of the season. I am guessing its probably from overuse because right after my game i played basketball (3 hours after) and then lifted after that. Once i started lifting my wrist just really hurt but i kept going.
overall i can't do any straight arm curls, the only curls i can do are hammer curls because it doesnt hurt my wrists. I haven't stopped lifting, i've just been taping them before i go. it's gotten better but i'm wondering how long it will take to heal.
tendinitis? or stress fracture? or what??

I'm going through the same exact thing right now - pain when I do straight curls but not when doing hammer curls. I caught a ball thrown about 90mph in the heal of my glove playing softball over a month ago and my wrist has been jacked up ever since. Seems like it's more of the "side" of my wrist (ulna, I believe) as your is. Whenever I supinate (or curl) my wrist inward and put any pressure on it, it feels like someone is stabbing it with a knife.
I really don't have any great advice. I was taping it up and continuing to lift just fine (with little to no pain) but the wrist hasn't got any better. I've tried icing it daily and taking ibuprofen and that helped a little, but it doesn't seem like it's getting better anymore after doing that for 3 straight weeks.
I've taken two weeks off of the gym (killing me) and will continue to not lift until this is 100% healed. My guess is that we have the same thing - some type of stress fracture that needs time to heal. Tendinitis would go away after a month.
Would love to hear other's opinions as well............does icing a stress fracture help/hurt the healing? I've Googled the hell out of this and can't really seem to get any good answers as everyone's opinion seems to differ. Going to the doc is not an option either as I'm now on some ****ty HSA health plan where my deductible is $2,000.

Keep me updated on what he says, will ya? I would like to know if the ice/rest/ibuprofen route is going to finally heal this annoyance or if there is something more we can do.

i cant remember exactly what he said but the gist was take ibuprofen and continue icing it for 2-6 weeks. he said it takes around 2-6 weeks to heal.
mine is feeling a lot better but still not 100%... its been about 3 weeks

I figured that would be what he would say - ice/rest. Not a big fan of doctors because I can usually guess their "prgnosis". I suppose you'd need an x-ray or MRI to really find out the exact problem.
I'm at about week 6, still some pain there but I'm tired of icing/waiting around. I started lifting (light) this week again and have just taped the hell out of it and there has been zero pain. I might be slowing the healing process but I'm far too impatient to wait another month without touching a weight. If I can't do straight curls, so be it.....hammer curls from here on in!
Appreciate the info.

Wrist pain as you describe can range from tendonitis to a ligament tear! IMHO, I would suggest having an Orthopedic hand/wrist Surgeon examine your wrist, take X-RAYS and perhaps an MRI, to determine the extent of your injury and prescribe appropriate treatment interventions. In the meanwhile I would suggest that you CEASE lifting for awhile to give the nflammation in your wrist time to calm down. If you continue to lift you will only aggravate your symptoms and prolong the time needed to heal. BTW, I am not a doctor and am not qualified to diagnose your problem or prescribe treatment. ONLY a medical doctor can do that.

Sounds like it's a fairly common problem, especially amongst those of us who play sports and/or lift regularly. Feels to me like something is torn - kind of a burning sensation, not necessarily shooting pain anymore.
Such is life.......if you lift heavy you'll eventually have some sort of nagging injury.

my wrist is almost better. should be 100% within the next 3 weeks. im guessing i sprained it or it was tendonitis. i've just been wrapping it before lifting and i've been icing and taking ibuprofen
good luck to you

Whoaa dudes Ive had the exact same thing, from a sloppy punch on a bag!
I would not ice it, the last thing you want is to compromise the circulation and thus healing.
I have just been patient and smart and it has gradually had a full recovery. Just do what you can without it hurting really bad.
What really helps are those chinese iron hand balls that you roll around in your hand

Been there, had this same injury about two years ago. After three MRIs and five doctors visits I was diagnosed with a tear in my Radial Ulnar Ligament. It took a good 8-10 months for it to heal because I was too hard headed at the time of the injury and didn't want to stop training. Skull crushers and curls would light my wrist on fire with pain. I wore a brace, took anti-inflammatories and alternated heat and cold, now I'm back to normal.

TFCC tear
Well guys i think first of all stop lifting weights. 2nd try to google "TFCC tear" and read about it. I have this condition now and its really annoying. I can lift a max of 5lbs on my right hand. I cant do curls and it really sucks. However, since the injury i avoided going to the doctor and continued lifting and it got worse. Im having an MRI soon and hopefully there will diagnose the problem. Im currently woking my legs and my abs. Might as well. So take it easy on ur wrists or else the amount of time for healing will increase.

Good stuff. I found a lot of information on TFCC tear and it seems like that is exactly what I have. Sounds like a lot of people opt for surgery. Since that is not a feasible option for me right now money-wise, I'm going to stick to taping it up and staying away from any/all activities that cause pain. I am still lifting, but as long as I tape it up well (to the point where I cannot rotate my wrist in any direction - up, down, left, right) I seem to be okay.
