And the winner of the state with laxest gun laws is.....
Vermont!

law prohibits a person, firm, or corporation, other than a parent or guardian, from selling or furnishing a firearm to a child under the age of 16 years. A handgun cannot be possessed by a child under the age of 16 years without the consent of a parent or guardian.

lulz ya i know i do all my camping/small game hunting/wilderness survival in vermont because a friend owns a house there in the middle of nowhere. theres tons of guns there. i went to the town and they had this nice little family run hardware store, seemed like stuff i would see back in MA except the lady behind the counter had a double barreled shotgun propped up in the corner, and they had enough .223 40 s&w .45 ACP .308 for sale to last through several zombie attacks lol, seriosuly, more ammo just sitting around on shelves than most of the MA gun stores have (and in MA u need to bring a license to buy ammo, and the ammo has to be locked up at the stores, never just on shelves). my friends neighbor is 8, and owns his own .22

whats wrong with children getting a gun from their parents if they are taught how to use it safely? my friend takes his 9 year old hunting, and the kid has taken down 2 deer a season for the past 2 seasons, one of which was a 10 or 12 point buck!

because what happens if little timmy decides to show off his gun to his mates? even if you teach kids proper safety...it only takes one kid to not get the message ya know?
Jackx...thats a pretty damn good idea your dad had there. You still have a gun, and whatnot, but its kept away from being misused.

In Texas you can take the hunters safety course when you are 9 and hunt on your own. Good law, IMO. 9 year olds aren't incapable of being safe and reasonable.

This. This isn't just a good idea for safety, but it's a good way to protect your guns. If the home is ever broken into, it would just be another easy thing to steal. This is how my family has been. I had my own guns, but they were kept in the safe, same as the rest of the family's guns (except my dad's .45, which was for "just in case" and I didn't know where he kept it anyway). If I wanted to get it out for whatever reason, my parents would get it out for me.

no man i wasnt trying to say it was a bad thing, i was saying its awesome and i just wish people here in my home state could see it the same way and accept that there is actually responsible gun ownership.

so what makes it lax though? to me it just puts responsibility where it should lie, with the parents.

I was referring to it looking like felons can purchase and no other state rules like the others. Did you check out the list?
