Competing at the universe aged 50

Ive read many different posts that are variations on am I too old to make progress. I have been competing for about 15 yrs and in that time overcome a serious car accident that left me with Brain trauma. I strongly believe in a postive mental attitude, too many people neg you, if your young and have few bad weeks, its a blip. if your my age, its your body telling you something. I stay away from people like this. This year I have won the EPF British Championship and yesterday the NAC British Championship and I am going to compete at the Universe on the 29th november 2008. The remarkable thing is the judges told me that I was the best they have ever seen me. I am not anything special, I don't possess great genetics, but I never make excuses, I still train like I did years ago. We can't do many things to stop ourselves aging, maybe plastic surgery, but why let our bodies age? Too busy a lifestyle, I work 60 hours a week, all you need is preperation, all my meals are prepared and two hours 4-5 times a week out of your life to keep a youthful body isnt too much time is it? IMO no one is too old to benefit, all you need is a postive attitude, realsitic short term and long term goals, consistancy, cycle your training intensity and good nutrition prepared in advanced and just as important: adequate rest

You said it Jim! there is simply no excuse. either you choose to live as a bodybuilder, or you dont. There for the most part is no excuse why one can't.

You are a welcome member in here. I am sadly partial to those who compete, have competed or appreciate competitors. Where is the competition and which association so we can log on to their site and see your placing? You are one dialed in fellow (or is that "chap" on your side of the pond?) Congradualtions on your conditioning. Looking forward to calling you Mr. Universe.

You look great. You might want to change the caption on that one picture to : Big Phil and Big Jim.

I can't see how you could fail with the outstanding attitude you have.

Congrats

My injury to my lower back was exacerbated the other day and I am in a lot of pain. After talking to my physio, I have had to withdraw from the Universe comp. I dont view this as a negative, I have had a fantastic season and I am now looking forward to the 2010 NABBA universe where I will have to improve to do well. Adversity is always around the corner, but its how you overcome it that matters, Thanks for all your kind wishes Jim

Thumbs up

Damn, injuries you say? Whatever, you look fantastic, especially your legs.

I do think the Brits say "spot on" although I could be wrong.

Best of luck in your contest!

I would like to say I was doing heavy deadlifts but it was just a freak incident,I have been nursing a recent injury there and I just went to get up and it was immediate. I have a weakness there due to a bad car accident a few years ago, but hey we all have our probs and yes John I will come back stronger, if anything this has made me more hungry and I certainly can't moan, I have had a great year and plenty to build on and in the words of Arnold" I'll be back" hahaha, thanks for the great messages and all the best to all of you for next year, Jim
