Has anyone here ever used modafinil? (serious)

Just wondering if anyone here has used Modafinil if they have any reasons for mental fog or lack of energy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modafinil

Also called Provigil I guess. If you have used it at all please feel free to share your experience with it because I am interested in getting it

Quote:
Modafinil (Provigil) is a stimulant-like drug manufactured by Cephalon, and is approved by the FDA for the treatment of narcolepsy, shift work sleep disorder,[1] and obstructive sleep apnea.[2] Modafinil, like other stimulants, increases the release of monoamines but also elevates hypothalamic histamine levels,[3] leading some researchers to consider Modafinil a "wakefulness promoting agent" rather than a classic amphetamine-like stimulant (as evidenced by the difference in c-fos distribution caused by modafinil as compared to amphetamine).[4] Modafinil is also indicated, though not approved, in the treatment of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD),[5] depression,[6] cocaine addiction,[7] Parkinson's Disease,[8] schizophrenia,[9] and disease-related fatigue.[10][11] By law, however, Cephalon is not allowed to market Modafinil for conditions other than those officially approved by the FDA. (in the U.S.)[12]

Modafinil and its chemical precursor Adrafinil were developed by Lafon Laboratories, a French company acquired by Cephalon in 2001.[13] Modafinil is the primary metabolite of adrafinil, and, while their activity is similar, adrafinil requires a higher dose to achieve equipotent effects.

This is a total necro post, but since no one replied I'll chip in in case you or anyone else is interested....

I suffer from narcolepsy. I don't experience cataplexy (falling asleep at random times), but I do suffer from excessive daytime sleepiness, I enter REM within minutes of falling asleep, and have the amazing talent to be able to fall asleep anytime, anywhere if I want to.

Anyway, I was prescribed Provigil (brand name for modafinil) to treat my symptoms. I am taking 400mg daily and have no noticeable sides other than it makes my pee smell a bit peculiar. It does a great job in combatting EDS and helps me focus like a normal person.

As far as my suggestions for you.... There have been studies done for off-label use by the military as a replacement for amphetimines with some good results. I can't really say I would highly recommend it as a workout enhancing stim (which is what I am guessing you are getting at). At least for me, it doesn't give me THAT kind of energy. It's more of an even "normal" feeling for me. Not jittery or rage-y, just a more alert state to keep me from narc-ing out.

It's classified as Sched IV here in the US, BTW. I guess it might be helpful with motivation, but I think an ECA stack would work just as well for or even better for a PW stim and be easier/cheaper/legal-er to obtain.
