What does it take to bench 500 as a lifetime goal?

Just saying, what in general does it take in terms of natural strength and hard work in the long run.

what do you mean what does it take?

consistency, hard work, dedication, and training with a 500 raw bench goal in mind. you don't have to be anything special genetically to bench 500 raw, you just need to put in the time

Ok, so at what number (of pounds) do you think it'd be required to have a good genetic gift to bench?

Agreed with what the guy above said. And if your not afraid to gain a lot of weight, it becomes a bit easier.

it is difficult to answer questions that make no sense.

    "at what point"? What?

are you suggesting that you think maybe you could hit 450 on pure hard work but after that in order to get to 500 it is all genetics?

genetics are always a factor. Hard work and knowhow are also always a factor.

Well what I basically mean is what range of weight for a "good" lifter is possible on hard work alone and natural. And then at what point do genetics start to become more and more important, while the hard work is still being done.

You'll know when you get there. If you work hard but never bench 500, it means your genetics worked against you. But that doesn't mean you should not try just because you might not make it. I'm only at about 320, but I'm still working my ass off.

    That doesent make anysense.

what your basically asking. Is "does it take a genetic elite to bench 500 raw/natural"

Answer= no. but it would help. Alot.

    Wow, that's harsh.

The guy has asked a question that there is no real answer to but it is someting that a lot of people surely wonder about, i.e. "what is my potential"? Most people will catch on that all you can do is try hard and you'll find out.

Yes, because if you're a high school basketball player, you likely run so much that you can't squat your bodyweight.

If that's so...there is no set weight. I know some 220lbers that have managed the task.

I was 236 when I missed by inches.

Everyone has their own specific anatomical make up. Some will require more training than others.

And I do believe that not everyone has the capability to bench 500 naturally. Genetics do have limits.

If that's so...there is no set weight. I know some 220lbers that have managed the task.

I was 236 when I missed by inches.

Everyone has their own specific anatomical make up. Some will require more training than others.

And I do believe that not everyone has the capability to bench 500 naturally. Genetics do have limits.
short people have an advantage, but so do hard working people

    Lifetime goal?

Try harder, or maybe realize that lifting weights isnt something you exceed at.

Well I'd think currently Im on a decent pace since I only train to increase my bench once per week and Im at (basically) 225 having only benched for several months (but wasnt training it properly till just 8 weeks ago). I guess Ill know but the challenge for me will be to stay lean and hit the 400+ marks, if i became 220, it wouldnt be nearly as hard, but I like my 6 pack

The goal of being heavier is putting on more muscle. 220 with a six pack is far from outrageous.
It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but rather the one most responsive to change.

some people wil never be able to bench 500 raw. But the only way to know if you can is to train consistently for a long time. You diet, injury prevention, and consistency will have the biggest factors i think. Like other people said if you gain a lot of weight it will make it easier, but 500 raw and natural is a big lift that a lot of people cant achieve.
