What makes a career/job satisfying?
trying to get my head around what makes a job satisfying?
e.g. for an accountant/financial/business related who are punching numbers in all day - how would it be satisfying for them? e.g. when they hit retirement they can look back on their life and say "i accomplished so many budget sheets"
whereas
say a teacher or nurse get satisfaction from helping others in their education or treatment..
does this come down to individual differences
someone care to explain or join in the discussion

I couldn't see how a financial job could be satisfying..
However I can see how jobs just as a doctor could be as they may get a kick out of helping others.
Programmers constantly have different challengers with a sense of accomplishment and self worth when completed. Also things change so much that you aren't repeating the same task over and over
I guess its really what an individual looks for.. Some people like repetitive boring work whereas others prefer something more dynamic.

Lots of money
Lots of free time
Internal reward
Status
Independence
Power
I think those are the main ones. If you have one of those - you're likely to have a really good job. Other stuff is lower down, but is what many people will settle for and be happy with.. stuff like 'fitting in', 'feeling comfortable', 'not being out of depth'... you know, stuff like that. You don't want to be a working class bloke in a upper class private sector establishment.. you'll feel unsettled, and vice versa.

intellectual progression, stimulation.
Or, for the intellectually incompetent, mediocre, boring, cliche, materialistically driven masses of the West, money. For stuff. To get chicks. Because your non porno size penis is more easily explained in a house than an apartment.

I unfortunately see my life heading the way of the business man, 9-5 making decent money but achieving nothing much really. I just don't know what else to do, I would consider a trade or a firefighter but the call of the money is too great.

Then you're a weak, kunt of a man who might as well off himself now. You're not even alive.

Teachers work more than most jobs. They are working a lot longer than just regular school hours.

It's a take home job and it's not the lifestyle I'd personally want... not enough free time, however you do get the bonus of school holidays, which might appeal to you (both parents teach)
