so everyone here says white bread is so refined to the point its like eating sugar.... and that you have to eat whole wheat bread as its not so refined so its still a complex carbohydrate.
so how do you tell if its whole what? i mean i dont know what your breads are like over there but here its a little like this, White bread, Wholemeal bread, Wholegrain bread and so on.
those are the big 3, so im assuming white=bad, now wholemeal i read the ingredients and it said 60% whole grains (highest % i could find) does that mean 40% is refined? is that good?
and wholegrain, is that just a gimmick so you think your doing good, as it only lists 16% whole grains in the actual bread, meaning the rest is just refined white bread?
do you guys buy hippy bread or regular bread? is there something im missing or what?
(p.s. if anyone here is a aussie and can chime in on what bread they use, would be appreciated)

Non-whole wheat bread is going to have more sugar. 100% whole wheat bread is what you want because the bread is made from the entire part of the wheat - the husk, flask, etc. Your body breaks down white bread quicker because it is already refined for you. Your body digests the sugars quicker, storing more sugar as fat. With whole wheat bread, your body needs to work harder and longer to break it down into sugars, thusly burning more calories in the process and storing less sugar as fat. It's really quite simple.
You can find bread that says 100% whole wheat right on it.

if it says 100% on the package it's good to go. If not, check the ingredients.. if the 1st ingredient listed is enriched then it is no different than eating a piece of white bread.
Don't buy based on the looks of the bread either. A majority of the super dark brown breads are made with enriched flour, then dyed with molasses and/or brown sugar.
You can't go wrong if the first ingredient is whole wheat flour.. anything enriched is garbage

hmmm i think almost every bread i looked at listed whole wheat flour as the first ingredient...interesting then.
szgor...etc. i knew exactly what the difference between whole wheat/white was, and the refining process, hence why i didn't ask about it. im enquiring specifically about the profuct and how to spot the good stuff.
