Sponsers?
I would like to a figure comp in about 6 months! It is something I really need to do. But i know costs are out the roof. Its just alocal show, so i wasnt sure if i could get sponsers to help take care of some costs? Does anyone know how this works, how to go about this and what to say without looking like i am begging for money? PLEASE help. I need to get this going ASAP!!!

Unfortunately, getting sponsors your first time out can be a bit difficult. Unless you can get your gym to sponsor you...many people can't get sponsors until they have a bit of competition experience under their belts already. At least, from what I'VE seen. It IS expensive to compete, I won't disagree with that. But there ARE ways to keep the costs down. Buy much of your food at bulk stores (Sams, Costco, BJ's...whatever). You can purchase gently used posing suits for a fraction of what a new suit costs...Look for ones being sold that were worn by women with the same basic measurements as you.
I just finally qualified for Nationals...it was my third competition...and I don't have sponsors yet. Though for my fourth (Masters Nationals in 2010), I may attempt to get my gym to sponsor me. We have a few competitors who train there, so I may get lucky. lol
Good luck, whatever you do...but don't let cost deter you! Being on stage is WORTH all you put into it. And there's ALWAYS a way to get through it without going bankrupt. :P

Here's the short version:

I don't know of anybody who has ever competed.
What are the sponsors job in a broad sense. I curious to know the level of input needed for an individual competitor.

Money???
U might run yourself ragged trying to fine the"ONE" it might be better to try the businesses you frequant who you have built a freindship with and ask for a donation they can afford. Try asking at your work! You might get $20, $50 but generally there's no obligation. Take what u get, put in a shoe box and ONLY spend it for suits, regerstration fees etc. You will be surprised how this will add up. Be cost conchious. Higher price does not always mean better. When you look @ suits best bang for the buck and REALLY great quality check out www.posingwear.com Suits by Amy She was a figure chick and started making suit because she thought they were to expensive.
STAY FIT

As a sponsored athlete, I am asked quite frequently about how to obtain sponsors. The real question should be: What do you have to offer? What are you providing a company in exchange for giving you money or services? There are a ton of experienced athletes who are going it alone - even IFBB Pros! What do you have to offer? What sets you apart from the herd? Can you drive up their business/sales? How?

They can cover anything ranging from contest entry fees, travel, supplemets, hotel, competition suits. They can also provide exposure through being featured on/with their products. It's a very general term that is used to cover a range of things.
