Is janthony for real?
" janthony Says:
November 11, 2008 at 5:51 am
I get a total kick out of watching the older men totally throw form out the F?n window in order to move a weight. Screw the thought of doing it right, I can?t bear to think that I?ve lost strength as I?ve gotten older. NO way that in my 60?s I can?t liift the same amount that I did when I was 30. I?ll show ol Father Time, he has nothing on me.
Watch this, I?m gonna bounce this barbell off my chest and bench press 200 lbs. Screw the fact that every rib in my chest gets compressed and my internal organs are all squashed against the back of my rib cage.
And watch this lat pull down. I?ll stand up with each rep, and jump downwards getting that momentum going.
All right then, I?m fired up now!"
I figured I would post this and see if any of the older crowd might want to send him a message.....What an idiot!

I see younger people with worse form than older. I guess it is another random generalization either to impress the girl who's blog that is, or he hates his dad?

I do reps with 205 and 225 no bouncing. I do see kids trying to bench 225 and going half way down or 3 to 4 inches.

The high school and college kids are the biggest morons in my gym. They also have the worst builds of any of the guys I see.

Undeserving of notice.
For every confused kid writing garbage like that, there are 100 looking up to our generation for an example.
And for every guy in the gym unable to deal with their aging there are 100 setting an example for the young guys to look up to.

He doesn't have his age listed but looking at his profile I would say he is probably in his 30s and not some teen. That is what pissed me off so much!

I think he does protest too much.
When anyone denounces others like he has done, just grouping and entire age group into one bag and call them all out, he had better hope he has proof to back up his claim, or have the body of a Greek God and videos to show how he does every rep perfect every time.
As he has neither I don't think he's worth wasting any more time on.

I found nothing wrong with his comments. I have seen it myself. I scratch my head and wonder whether the person never learned the correct form or whether they are trying to impress someone. I see it from the same 2 guys all the time. Barbell cheat curls that look like they are using 50% of their lower back muscles.
Thankfully those 2 are they exceptions (so far) at my gym. The younger kids have pretty good technique since most of them are in a sport at school and have been taught by coaches. The middle aged or older folks that lift have done so for a long time. Rarely will I see some newbie that has no clue. Now that the first of the year is around the corner, the newbies or 1 month members will come out in droves.

i personally agree that most of the older guys i see have the worst form. they have notions that were hatched in 1970, and refuse to change. the biggest offense i see is too limited a range of motion with too much weight.
the younger folks have it going on.

Don't worry folks. It's all those other old people he is talking about.
No old people in here anyway.

arm flapping
I see older guys flapping their arms or swinging them to warm up. Is this old school or something? I weigh 120, bench 190 with no bouncing......hahaaa!

You are very dedicated and accomplished woman.....Maybe you might want to a powerlifting meet a try since you are only 8 lbs under the American record.

I'M one of those "older dudes" who uses atrocious form. I love it when people stare at me when I do benches with 225 and go two inches down; hey, at least I got it back up! And I did 6 reps with it!!
It also impresses everyone when I stick 435 on my back and do a one or two-inch squat. To the naysayers, I tell 'em that I'm practicing for the shotput and this helps me with my "explosive" pushoff. Full-range curls? Who needs 'em! If Sergio can do seated curls with a 4-inch ROM, I can, too.
Seriously, crappy form is practiced by a lot of people out there; age isn't a factor, but--assuming there are no prior injuries limiting ROM--stupidity certainly is. I just do what's best for me and what will fit my goals. Besides, when I worked out in a gym years ago I never paid any attention to anyone except me. Now, I work out alone, and my concentration is even better. Let those who think they're working out properly (when they aren't) continue to fool themselves. I've got better things to do with my time...

I guess it depends on your gym. In the gym I go to, it is almost exclusively the 18-19 year olds using crappy form....and, they never do any back work and they never do any squats. They do almost exclusively bench, curls, and shoulder press.
The older guys in my gym hardly ever lift free weights. They all stick to machines. I have no idea why....

If I'm honestly working the muscle, while avoiding injury, I couldn't care less what anybody thinks about me, how much weight I'm using, my form, my pants, the color of my shirt, the type of car I drive, or the square footage of my house. Fuk 'em.
