looking for help with football
so i have huge intentions of walking on to the football team at my college next year but i havent played on a team(except for pick up games here and there) since i was a junior in high school. anyways im trying totrain as much as possible to get into condition for next year, what im looking for is routines or examples for workouts(weights, conditioning drills, etc.) really anything to do with football. i quit football mostly because i was sucked into the powerlifting atmosphere, and ive been doing that and a little bit of bodybuilding for the last few years. like i said anything helps. if you need anymore backround about me just ask. appreciate it.

I'm planning on walking on to the State School local to me next year... I've just been training my ass off since Football ended my senior year of HS. Lifting / etc. Recently joined a semi-pro team to get back in football shape and drills and such. so my advice is to find a league or something to just get back into playing...
Even if it means pickup games.
And work on your quickness....

well to be completely honest im in a league called CFL(city football league) it doesnt seem like it though because we had 4 games and only played 1 and forfieted the other 3, because only myself and 1 other guy show up on time or at all, the rest of our team must be afraid or something, no show, no call...no nothing. i played a pick up game with the team we were supposed to face yesterday and they talked to me about just joining up with there team and i think thats what im going to do, there more reliable and have some really fantastistic players on both sides of the ball. anyways my stats are 5'8 im weighing in around 168. when i played in middle school i was a wide reciever and a defensive end and i was a 2nd string half back. in high school i only played on D and was a safety, and a cornerback. playing in college positons i want to try for are halfback(depending on if i can put on some more size and keep my speed up) a wide reciever, a safety, or a cornerback. yes the team i plan to walk onto is pretty decent(there record is 7-4) next year the school will become a universtiy. what should i do in the gym?

In the "Ultimate Workout Sticky" in the Workout Programs section there's a link of a thread by latrel. Go there and find a routine you like that is made for strength/explosive gains. Come back and we can tell you if it's a good choice.

As for agility drills, I can help you out as much as I can.
Ladders. Right foot first then left. Going back to Left foot first.
- Lateral Shuffle
- Icky Shuffle
- Hip twists
-Single Leg Hop
, etc
Ropes:
-Double Leg Jump (high)
-Double Leg Jump (quick)
-Side Lateral Jump
-One legged jump
-Icky Shuffle
Dots:
-Stagger Dots
-Stagger Balance Dots
-Fives
Jump Rope: If you can do tricks, alternate legs, etc, you're fine here.
-Star
-Side to side
-Front to back
-Double Jumps
-etc
There's a lot you can do. I also recommend box jumps. These are just a few off the top of my head.

I would say improve your speed and play a DB role. Whats your 40?? If your fast and show some skill you'll definitely make the team, teams are always looking for DB and most have like 10 DB's.

You can definitely make the team. Things that you will be tested on during the tryouts are, The 40, Vertical Leap, 5-10-5 Shuttle, and prolly the 225 rep max on bench. You definitely need to work on your speed. At your size you should be running a 4.5 forty or better. I ran a 5.2 laser forty at 6'4 305. Good luck. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up

5x3 on bench press will get you strong and massive. Do heavy heavy weights. When you start out pick a weight that you know you wont be able to finish by yourself for the last set. Have someone help you with it. When you get to where you can do that by yourself add five pounds the next time. Its all about failure. Also work on endurance because that is what the 225 rep max is all about. My rep max was 225x27 between my freshman and sophomore year in college. Just work hard. O yea, Supplement GAKIC before workouts.
