Cheat/Binge help
I have a common problem ( i think so ) of binging once every 2 weeks instead of adding in a single cheat meal. My mentality is that I am doing myself good by upping the calories and throwing in some 'bad' foods to give my body a jump start in metabolism and the sort of 1 step back, 2 step forwards
however, it seems like i am using this as an excuse to eat all sorts of crap (mainly ice cream, cookies, cake, pizza, burgers) and in my mind i feel like it will be doing me better in the long run since i will fall back on track with my diet the next day
anyone else can relate to this or offer some beneficial advice such as not cheating at all?

not necessarily..
i wanted someone to take on the issue of Cheating...some people go into it knowing it is just purely junk and offers nothing positive than a sheer mental satisfaction
however, other people (like me) get caught up into thinking that they NEED these cheats to help keep metabolism and thyroid levels normalized when dieting...its sort of your body convincing itself to cheat and justifying it by thinking "oh hey, the more i take in, the more my metabolism will shoot up"

I dont think one cheat day every 2 weeks is that bad for you. Just limit yourself. Dont go freakin overboard and hit up the fast fod restaurant, then go home and eat ice cream and cookies. Thats just plain out stupid. Set some guidlines for yourself. Limit yourself to 2 cheat foods on a cheat day. And stick to it! Then you can go have something fatty and something sweet...make sure its a training day not a day off so its not so detrimental to your progress and my advice is have your cheat meals after you workout when your body is using everything you eat to rebuild.

If you want information, instead of asking a question, SEARCH this forum. There have been many threads about cheating, cheat meals, it's psychological effect, etc. Really, search and check!
The search feature is your friend.

Also, different people can cheat to different extents. You can afford to off the deep end a bit more if your a lean 230 compared to a "big boned" 200.

unnecessary post
if you actually paid attention, 98-99% of posts in the nutrition/losing fat forums can be found using the search
this forum should welcome questions while possibly suggesting searches but in a welcoming fashion for people to freely ask things without the fear of someone acting like a complete tool "SEARCH, SEARCH bla bla"
plus..my question already got answered and the thread was over which makes your post even more unnecessary but thanks anyway

That's the problem. There is no physical advantage to cheating once a week/once a month. It's purely psychological.
To really restore your leptin levels/other hormones/metabolism you need to eat maintenance for a week or two. One cheat meal or day will do nothing for your hormone level or metabolism.

One: It's all how you word the search.
Two: My post was just following the number one rule of the Losing Fat forum:
Quote:
1) Please use the search function before asking a question. 99% of the topics posted about have already been discussed at lengths in the past. You can click on the search button in the top right corner and find information on a variety of topics, as well as on the articles section on the main bodybuilding.com site. This will help you find what you're looking for quicker and easier, and put less stress on the older members of the site who have probably answered your question more than once.
You are more than welcome to post, but please run a search first! Please read through the posts "stickied" at the top of the losing fat forum to get you started. Instead of starting a new thread on a subject that has already been discussed, bumping an old topic in order to build on the previous discussion is also recommended.

So, I guess YOU are the "tool." Since your post is one that can be found.

moral of the story: dont single anyone out with your "search" BS, either tell everyone who asks a question to search, or just dont mention it at all
( it is not my intent to start an online debate here because it is discouraging for the forum use, but i read 10000 posts everyday that have been answered 100000000 times and for some reason mine gets singled out and it is frustrating)

If you have a complaint over the forum rules, talk to a moderator.
Look, my original post was to help you find the answer you were looking for, since obviously, you were not being spoon fed the answer you wanted.
I do tell everybody who posts have been answered a zillion times to search, check out my posts. Many people are too lazy to search, or think their post has to be so unique that no one has answered it before. Which category does yours fall in?
Moral to this post: Don't jump on someone who was trying to be helpful since you were not getting the answer you wanted.
I am done wasting my time with you. Glad your question was answered.

I wasn't aggitated. Your replies were such that you were not getting the answer you wanted, so my suggestion was to do a search. Period. I stand by my first post.

For me cheating is purely psychological. I only do one meal. Once a week, sometimes only once every two weeks. I've been doing this for a year and was still able to lose over 100lbs. I do have a fast metabolism, so I don't know how much that came into play. I also always tend to cheat with a pasta dish, usually something from Olive Garden. IMO eating one bad meal out of what 40 each week ain't going to do a whole lot. And if it does, just take note and adjust your diet and/or work out harder.

I usually cheat on sundays. its my "day off" but in the morning i go for a quick walk so i don't feel completely lifeless. but the odd thing about my cheat day, is that when i cheat, it is with weight watchers foods! my family is on the weight watchers diet, which works for them, but not for me, so i sundays i use there weight watchers meals as my cheat. kind of wierd, but they have good desserts and what not, and its healthier then going to the drive thru windows. (and cheaper)

cheat meals, pfft.
Most know my feelings on them already.
I'll usually drop in some sort of "cheat meals are for the weak" line in every cheat meal related thread.
I guess cheat meals were ok back when I still had the bulk of the weight to lose, I've found that now with only 6kgs left to lose ~13lbs ...
cheating once a week really hurts and is the different between a chiselled set of abs in a faster time, also noticed that weight-loss for that week sufferers.
It really just depends on how hardcore you wanna take it, your goals and your willingness to achieve those goal.
