It depends on the tattoo. If it is just an outline or a shade then it should be fine. But if you are getting it totally filled in then you really shouldn't work it out for about 2 weeks. The skin can and probably will crack open, hurt like hell and mess up the new tat. Make sure you ask whoever does the tattoo.

Never rewrapp a fresh tattoo. Why did u do that.

As far as op's question. Sure why not ive worked out the same day as getting tats before. Nothing will happen at all, just make sure its moist. I usually apply skin lotion to mine tat the day after.

Got one last year on my shoulder blade and worked out shoulders the next day. Just wore a sleeveless shirt and put a towel on the bench for a little extra padding and everything was good, tat still looks great. I asked the guy who did mine and he said it would be no problem to work out afterwards, just give it a day and moisturize it constantly.

I thought the goal is to keep it as dry as possible? So if I workout would I want it to be a little moist or try to keep it as dry as possible?

I never keep mine dry afterwards. I leave it about 1 to 1and a half hours then have a shower and give it a clean, apply bepanthen cream immediatelly after shower. I shower twice a day and repeat with cream. In 3 to 4 days last scab has flaked off and totally healed.

Didn't hurt, nor did i find it irritating. I found it more irritating and painful when it rubs against your bed when you're trying to sleep if I'm honest.

Is it normal for my tattoo to be a little red after the workout? May be stupid but im real cautious .. I didnt sweat on my tattoo nor did i get it dirty so im not sure its infected at all.. and how the hell could I do the bench with it on my shoulder blade? Should I just try and make the bench movement more controlled with a towel on the bench??

Thanks guys this is a helpful thread

You shouldn't have any problems. I never did. Make sure you keep the ointment on it and make sure it doesn't dry out and form a scab. I never wrapped mine. I just made sure it was moist. As soon as you are through with your workout- wash it gently, pat it dry, and reapply the ointment.

I don't think any exercise is a problem as long as you keep it moist with ointment and don't let it scab up. I'd worry about upright rows because for me at least they kill my shoulders so I stopped doing them.

You're not supposed to get sweat on a fresh tattoo. Even though it's from your own body and what not, the sweat has bacteria in it that can give you an infection regardless of how long you worked out for, as soon as the sweat is on it, it's on it. Also if you're working out at a local gym it's very crucial not to workout right away because of all the other possible sweat and bacteria left around from other people. Last note you don't want to use a towel at all until after about 2 weeks towels and clothing can contain bacteria. Good luck buddy.
