Rotator Cuff Surgery-been gone for a while
I have not been very active on the forum due to shoulder surgery 3 weeks ago. I fell through a customers deck about 10 feet to the ground and then the whole deck collapsed on me. I ended up with a torn rotator cuff and had surgery 3 weeks ago. I started Physical Therapy last week and I am recovering nicely.
It was a major mental set back, since I was making such great progress in the gym, I am trying to stay positive and I will start light workouts (mainly cardio and whatever else I can do that wont involve the right shoulder.
My surgery also involved a Mumford procedure where they trim down the clavical in a couple of areas and removed some bone spurs. Anyone else have this procedure?

Good to see you back. Don't waste any effort worrying about the layoff; put it into your rehab. You'll get back, no problem.

I had the same procedure done 12 yrs ago. You need to give it time before you start pushing even moderate weight again. It took me almost a year to get back to where I was before the surgery. I may have been able to get back to that point faster if I would have pushed it a little harder but I did not want to hurt the shoulder again because its easier to hurt it the second time........be very careful for a while..........just listen to your shoulder..........it will let you know when it can handle more.....I tore mine on the BB flat bench.......good luck!

Sorry to hear about the mishap, but glad you're back. Sounds like cardio and legs are gonna be your deal for awhile.

Hey,
I fell through a floor about 6 years ago and ended up dislocating my shoulder which kept dislocating until I had surgery last year. While it is a different procedure, the recovery is almost the same I would assume. I was in a sling for 7 weeks and my left delt, bi/tri/, chest (basically everything on the left) atrophied big time. I have limited ROM on that side now but not sure if you would with rotator cuff surgery.
Anyway, any questions I'll try to help.

Don't try and rush your recovery, I'd listen to the PT's about how soon to start pushing yourself.
Good Luck and sorry to hear of your mishap.

no lack of ROM for me and i had a supraspinatus tear fixed, subacromial decompression and bone spurs removed, after 6 months 4 months of PT i was back as good as new. the PT is key go to it, work hard on it no matter how much it hurts and you will be far better off than without. 11 months post OP at the moment and my shoulder seems no different than my other.
