Is ramen THAT bad for you?

i love eating the chicken ramen with 2 eggs

    with 2 eggs..

    491 calories

    13g fat
    8g saturated

    1760mg sodium

    54g carbs

    2g fiber

    1g sugar

    22g protein

the only real bad thing i see is the sodium (and MSG), which shouldnt really be that bad if you drink a lot of water

I agree. do a test if you don't believe us. Keep doing everything that you are already doing and for the next 6 weeks the only thing you change is stop eating ramen. maybe replace it with the equivalent caloric amount of oats. Then come back and tell us if you have lost any fat. I bet you will.

If you can find the frozen udon noodles, get those. Much tastier & carb heavy for an easy bulking meal. But seriously, how hard is it to cook some pasta and cover it with tomato or cheese sauce?

1760mg of sodium for 490 calories of food is unheard of and horrible, your daily max should be 2400 mg. Thats just some junk food just make your own whole wheat noodles and add your own cooked chicken and the sodium will be down under 300mg.

    Yep

I used to carry a pack in my pocket during training missions in the army. All that sodium comes in handy during the ol' 20 mile ruck marches. It tastes almost....eggy when it's uncooked. Maybe it's plastic though lol, who knows...

because its a slower digesting carb so it wont spike insulin, when insulin levels are high you wont burn fat, ramen noodles are fast digesting. plus i think it has more chemicals in it than actual food sources. plus iam not sure but having more sodium would actually reduse water retetion or am i wrong ?

I do enjoy ramen every once in awhile. But, when I do, I only use half the seasoning pack. The sodium content is really quite excesive in some (over 100% daily rec. intake), so at least cut back on the sprinkles. Half a packet still flavours it nicely too.

But yeah, probably not the best food choice to eat regularly.

The noodle is fried then dressed in chemicals. Although, when I do eat ramen noodles, I go for the Korean ones. A bit spicy, but much more luxurious than the cheap Maruchan crap.

Ramen Noodle soup is bad for you. It's high in fat as well as sodium.

    It's basically fried noodles.

Depends on the brand, but should be similar to the above.

This is without a soupl base though. A basic udon soup broth consists of 3 things. Dashi (seaweed stock, either from sprinkles or make your own by boiling kombu seaweed), mirin (rice wine), and shoyu (soy sauce). These are fairly low in calories and moderate sodium. You don't really need alot to flavour your broth, and it tastes great.

You should be able to find all of these ingredients in pretty much any asian supermarket. And they are becoming more common in regular north-american chain supermarkets as well.

It's been 6 years...OP probably died of sodium poisoning from all the ramen by now.

Ive never been able to grasp the way other ppl cook ramen. Granted its been well over a decade since ive ate it much, but i did regularly as a kid growing up.

I see ppl dumping the pack of noodles in a pan of water whole, when its cooked, just dump powder in... how can they tolerate that... disgusting...

First off, i have always crushed up the noodles into chucks. I don't need some 12 foot long noodle stand. Secondly, and the part i most never understood, was i RINSE it. Its a pasta. To me pasta gets rinsed. Just like when you make spaghetti in boiling water, you rinse it afterwards! THEN you fill it with just a little bit of water. Not so little that's its practically dry, but no so much it like a massive broth in chicken soup or anything. Just a little bit. Then i add the packets. The small but right amount of water ensures that its not dry, but not so much that the flavor is so deluded that its a waste. - When i see ppl poor packets into a full pan of water after cooking it makes me cringe. I cant even watch ppl eat it like that.

I agree that its not great for you, iron in it is but thats it. I dont believe it is a sign of someone being lazy. I used to eat it alot and it takes 3x longer to cook than oatmeal, so its not associated with being lazy, but definitely replace it, whole grain pasta with onion powder and extra virgin olive oil is what i do, i crave salt sometimes and i like noodles.
