Opinions on this Hip and Leg sled please ??
Hello, I am looking to add a very important piece to my home gym, And I was wanting several people to please give their opinion on this leg press machine
There is a possibility that I might be helping a few people train/lose weight after the first of the year, so this machine must be safe as can be so no one gets hurt
I hate purchasing equipment without using it first
If anyone has any other ideas please let me know THANK YOU

For a sled press / leg machine... Looks good for home use...
But It begs the question... Why not just get a power rack for cheaper, does more exercises and will provide better work of the microstabalizers, that are after all at the root of true power.

Don't forget the incidentals... Like Additional plates... Gloves, Clamps, and a Goalie Mask, for when your UPS man punches you in the face for ordering something with a 450 pound shipping weight!
*****
Not to pick this idea apart... But why are you thinking this route over a power rack... Which can do more excersizes, costs less and ultimately since it takes less plates, will weigh less?

If it's shipped like mine was, it will come in a couple of boxes, each 100+ lbs. And lots of assembly is required.

I have a 90 dgree leg press, I bought a hack squat machine for $25 off eBay and sold it after I repaired it for $450, lol. I like the vertical press better, seems to hit my thighs better than the hack machine ever did.

The Yukon is a decent build, the parabody and Body Solid only hold like 500lbs, which is a warm up weight for me
I would lean this way

Sounds like you've got everything you need...
I don't know that there's any muscle group a Hack Squat or leg press can work that a Power Rack based exercise wouldn't work better.
I mean sure hack's and leg presses have got some nice vanity numbers... You can go to the High School Reunion... And when you're the beast that walks through the door people start asking you how much you lift... And to your average Noob... Leg pressing 500 pounds sure "sounds" more impressive than squatting 340.
But I squat 340 and I can take someone who leg presses 500, crumple them up like an aluminum chair at a weight watchers meeting and stand on their throat till they make a gurgling sound I can interpret at "Uncle."
******
If you've got a thousand bucks to toss around and your weight gym is Darth Vader "Impressive" I'd start looking at Cardio equipment????

but I squat 525 and leg press 1260
when my leg press goes up, my squat goes up, but it does not work the other way
I also get a lot better leg separation before a show doing hack squats than regular squats, so if you want a hip sled, and aren't asking for anyone elses money, go for it
I have not been able to use the leg press since April, due to a heel problem, but am looking forward to it again soon

I have this one:
http://www.yukon-fitness.com/Merchan...D/BNCH/ALP-150
It's very sturdy and is a nice compromise between the old vertical leg presses and the sleds. You won't need nearly as many plates and it takes up less space.
I've had mine for several years. The 7 degree angle makes it very comfortable.

I always wondered about those, the 7 degree makes the weight closer to true
where my 1260 in plates is only 891 on a 45 degree, 800 in plates on this is 794 approx, then add the weight of the sled and it is a whole bunch of weight, more than most people can handle, approximately 25 - 45lb plates on a 45 degree sled

Yes, the 7 degree angle is just enough to ensure comfort, yet you're still mostly lifting the weight as opposed to just "pushing it up a hill".

Nainoa, like I said in my first post, I may be helping a few lose some weight after the first of the year, Both men are probably close to 350 lbs each (VERY OUT OF SHAPE), And I figured this would be a lot safer for them instead of squats (I might be wrong though), I already own a treadmill too

I have tried some TDS stuff, but not this particular machine
I can say the Parabody and Bodysolid are both way to light duty for me, I HAVE tried both of them.
The Yukon Stuff is solid. The 7 degree press is nice, but no Hack Squat option, which would kill the deal for me. The Hip Sled combo is probably pretty decent. The TDS should be of similar quality
Try ebay for both units

Well at 350 pounds, they shouldn't be squatting, hacking or deading...
Step one at that level of Obesity is body weight exercises and Cardio. (Which can your treadmill even handle 350?) My Treadmill is supposed to be to 275, and when I do more than walk on it, the whole damn thing threatens to explode.
They need the cardio vascular fitness long before they should even lean a towel on a Hack machine!
I **** you not... There is a minimum "In Shape" to "Get in Shape."
You're talking about 6 weeks of deep knee bends, treadmill (Or more realistically Elliptical) and maybe some benching and curling... Before these guys are going to be squatting/hacking/rack pulling or anything like that.
If you're "Looking for something for them" to add to your gym... #1 is a professional grade, adjustable stride, Elliptical...
Their joints aren't going to be able to handle the pounding...
They're going to get a **** ton of inflamation in the Hip Labrums, and knees... (Not to mention possible Bursitis) and it's going to make it even harder for them to stay interested.
At least the Elliptical is going help keep those issues down.
Elliptical/cardio... and Benching, with some body weight stuff... Maybe some Lat tower, and some heavy bag... Is going to be about the max I'd personally put on their plate for the first 50 pounds of weight loss.

I like that one too, but 1500lbs is all most people could ever think of using
I am looking to stack the gym machine, which would be 32 total plates, the most I've done was 28 plates for 3-4 reps
It was REAL heavy

Does anyone still use leg presses like the one linked below. A lot time ago (and it seems like a galaxy far away), I loved this type of leg press, but have not touched one since I was 19 or so.

I hate purchasing equipment without using it first
If anyone has any other ideas please let me know THANK YOU

As far as a residential leg press/hack squat goes, it's a good buy. I tried it once, mind you I was in street clothes. I do like the base design. The box/rectangle provides more stability and contact with the ground so that there is less tendency to wobble. Some of the models at NYBB are in a T-frame, which have always made me nervous. I used a T-frame based leg press once and it felt very uncomfortable. The more base contact with the ground, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
