Ouch!! Plantar Fasciitis
I was running on the treadmill yesterday and felt a "funny" pain in my left heel, but I continued to run. This morning when I went to get out of bed I couldn't put any weight on my left foot. As the morning has progressed I have been able to walk a little bit better. After doing a little web research it sounds as if I have plantar fasciitis. Anyone had to deal with this, and if so what did you do to make it go away.

I had it. Two things helped:
1. Massage therapy to loosen up all the muscles in the legs. Stretching the calves is important. Also, the therapist worked on the foot bed to get rid of any adhesions.
2. Get a Podiatrist to make you custom orthotics and wear them in every shoe. If money is a problem then off-the-shelf Birkenstock orthotics are a good start.

I had it, but I didn't go for the fancy inserts for my shoes. I picked up a few pairs of the inserts at Walgreens and put them in all my shoes. After a few weeks it went away. I kept using the inserts for several years (had to replace them periodically of course) but now I haven't used them for a long time.
It's a pain, but the inserts work wonders.

I had the problem, so I started running on the balls of my feet. That fixed not only the plantar fascitis but also the pain in my knees.

Taping your foot before running will help.

There are also night splints that you wear on your foot when you sleep that helps prevent the morning pain.
Or wear boots when you sleep. It will do the same thing. Keeps your foot in the standing position.

What do the inserts do that help fix the problem? Do they just raise the arch?

I did the night splints for a while, and LOTS of stretching, especially when I'd wake up, before I'd get out of bed.
The pain lasted for several weeks, went away for a while, came back but not as bad, but I've been pretty much pain-free for the past six months. Just once in a while, I'll get a twinge, but stretching it often seems to do the trick.

The HTP inserts plus fascia release stretching.
1. Stand on a tennis ball and roll your foot around
2. Sit in chair with one ankle on the knee of the opposite leg. Pull your foot towards your shin with your toes fully extended. (Point them toawrds your shin too.)
I still suffer from it, but I am fully active and it only acts up after I walk/run for a few hours.

Had it - it sucked
Podiatrist wanted to inject cortisone in the bottom of my foot - NO
I also play roller hockey
On line research I found it common in hockey players because the tent to curl their toes when they skate. So I made a conscious effort to extend my toes while skating and on the treadmill.
Pain was gone in 10 days and has not been back in 4 years

I had it and bought inserts that seemed to fix it along with a lot of stretching.
