desiccated liver
I was recently reading an article about using desiccated liver tablets for positive nitrogen balance and decreased fatigue. I remember hearing about it before but never actually saw or heard anyone taking it. Has anyone heard of this and does it work?

Uni-Liver is dessivated liver tabs, and they're great. pop a couple of them with each meal and you get a few extra grams of protein as well as a ton of B vitamins. they're definitely a great thing for anyone to add. Best of all, they're cheap too. 500 is like $12.

Very good stuff. beverly makes one too, but Uni-Liver is a better value. Also, try to chew them when you take them, your body absprbs them better.

Definately disgusting, but I do what I have to. You cant really even mask the flavor with juice or anything because how potent it is.

1. What are they and where do they come from?
Dessicated liver is extracted from the liver of beef cattle. It is rich in B vitamins and is a natural source of iron and folic acid.
2. What does it do and what scientific studies give evidence to support this?
Dessicated liver helps to increase red blood cell count and stimulate appetite. Anabolic steroids also stimulate appetite and increase red blood cell count.
Dessicated liver is a natural source of iron. Supplementing with too much synthetic iron can result in an iron overdose. Overdosing with synthetic iron can result in death. With natural sources of iron, overdose is almost never likely to occur, even in individuals who consume large quantities of red meat.
The Iron and B vitamins in desiccated liver tablets contribute to bone health, muscle building and immune functioning.
3. Who needs it and what are some symptoms of deficiency?
Everyone can benefit from supplementing with dessicated liver tablets. Populations that may benefit most from the supplementation of desiccated liver include: Bodybuilders and athletes, individuals with iron-related blood disorders, and individuals deficient in folic acid.
Bodybuilders and athletes may benefit from supplementing with dessicated liver due to its ability to stimulate appetite, improve blood health and contribute to the edition of lean body mass to one's frame. In the 1960s and '70s bodybuilders like Tom Plattz would supplement with liver tablets to maximize muscle gains.
Individuals suffering from anemia may benefit from supplementing with desiccated liver because it is a natural source of iron. Synthetic iron poses the possibility of overdose, while desiccated liver is free from this possibility.
4. How much should be taken? Are there any side effects?
Although there are no known side effects from supplementing with desiccated liver tablets, it is recommended that label directions be followed at all times. Individuals with iron related disorders should consult with a physician prior to the supplementation of dessicated liver.

There's a small but growing and very loyal following for liver tabs. It's a staple for me.
Here's an article in liver tabs:

Here's a thread on what they're good for:

Here are three review/feedback threads:

Most of us take 'em like regular tabs. There is a fringe group who chews on 'em. I've even heard a group who turns 'em into "pudding"...

If you can't eat steak twice a day they're a staple IMO.
I've been eating flank steak 2x a day for sometime but it's $$$ and cooking every nite isn't fun.
I used to chew liver pills
I found when taking so many a day it seemed easier to digest chewing them IE i didn't **** pills.

When I was pre show dieting in 06 I was taking 6 per meal... sometimes they didn't digest so well.
So I started chewing them. Taste means nothing to me during contest diets.
Local meat market has flank steak for 5.99 a pound though so now i've been rocking that... can be a pain though. I'm a liver pill fan though.

Really? I was reading two recent review threads on another forum where fellas put the Uni-Liver in warm water (yeah, not resembling a stomach by any stretch) and the tabs dissolved.
