How long can cooked chicken be kept in a fridge?

I cooked a chicken and stored away the meat in a fridge. How long before it goes bad?

    Cooked Poultry, Leftover
    Pieces, plain : 3 to 4 days

Storage conditions and other factors can swing it a day or so in either direction. Use that, your taste buds and your nose as your guide.

Actually in the case of cooked chicken (and many other foods), it becomes high risk before it smells or tastes bad.

This works vice versa too. Quite often spoiled food is safe to eat from a bacteria perspective, it just tastes/smells like crap.

A couple of weeks, though it might be a bit dry. When you cook it you eliminate all the bacteria.

No, you eliminate most of the bacteria when you cook food. Putting it in the fridge then slows the growth of the remaining bacteria.

I cook all my Chicken Sunday night and eat on it until Sat night. I typically put each days portion, between 8 and 16oz in plastic containers, and never have a problem.

I've ate 10 day old chicken with a slight bad smell and was ok but it didn't taste right so 9 days is my max now!
