questions about cardio and burning fat
Hey guys i had a question about burning fat. Would it have the same impact on fat loss if you were to say burn 300 calories on the treadmill in 10 minutes walking at an incline at a faster pace or burning 300 calories calories in 15 minutes walking at a slower pace, would the impact on fat loss be more with walking at the slower pace for a longer period of time? Or would they be the same because you would be burning 300 calories either way? I think it would be easier to do more harder cardio for a shorter amount of time instead of doing moderate cardio for a longer amount of time and burn the same amount of calories. Also is it okay to keep walking on the treadmill for a long period of time or would one hit a plateu with cardio? What is the best cardio to burn stomach fat? Thanks guys

As long as your lifting routine is intense with a reasonable diet, you could probably get away with doing low intensity cardio and get pretty ripped. Eventually though if you want to get to that next level you would have to do HIIT.
The only benefit of doing the 300 calories burned in 10 minutes is you're working harder in a shorter amount of time, so you'll continue to burn some more calories after you have stopped working out.

In all honesty, you should be doing a little bit of everything. Lifting, walking, biking, blading, running, etc.
Cardio is sometimes underated by those who focus on what type of energy is utilized during the bouts, or how many calories are burned.
Cardio improves the way your body functions overall.
Give your body a reason to burn fat and build muscle.
A lighter body is quicker and can move a given distance, using less energy. I believe the body picks up on this and will liberate stored energy to improve performance -- IMO/IME.
Interval training has worked great for many.

When you have that much weight to lose, you just gotta get started. Start off doing what you can. Remember it is all about calories in and out. To lose fat you must use more calories than you put in (called a calorie deficit). Doesn't really matter if you walk for 300 or walk on incline for 300. still burning 300. as you get into this more and more, you will be able to increase the intensity (speed, and incline) and that will be good. Then you will be running. Same thing with that. Run slow for 45 minutes or run fast for 30 minutes? all about calories.
However, when you start talking about higher intensity stuff like HIIT for 20 minutes as opposed to slower/moderate intensity stuff for longer it is another story. You can burn 300 calories during 20 minutes of HIIT and burn 500 calories doing moderate intensity cardio for a longer time. But then you need to start factoring in the "afterburn" effects of the HIIT, which can increase your metabolic rate for hours after the exercise.
all in all, at the beginning, just get moving and start burning the calories. Consistency is key. Do some every day.

I think that greater effort while during cardio. will do a lot to increase endurance. 300 cals. is 300 cals., but higher intensity and duration is beneficial as well. Just make sure that your progress is gradual and you're not doing too much too soon.

Honestly, no matter what type of walking you do, it's not going to make a big difference. I think walking is a bad example. 15 minutes of walking is going to burn more like 50 calories.
If you spend 20 minutes jogging and burn 300 calories though, it would certainly be more beneficial to throw in sprints, go for half the time, and still probably burn more calories when all is said and done.

Normally I would agree with this line of thinking, but not when someone says that they have 100+ pounds to lose. You gotta start out slow and build your way up. he isn't expecting to drop that 100 pounds in 2 months. It took him a long time to pack it on, and it will take some time to take it off healthily. Better to not to to do too much too fast or else you might just give up and revert to your bad old ways. However, you need to keep in the back of your head that walking is just temporary until you can handle slow jogging.
Diet will be key. While exercise is very important, you should focus 100% of your energy on eating clean because that will get you the best results the fastest.

Well yeah, like I was saying, at that weight (Or at any weight, when it comes to walking, really), how you choose to walk is not really important, the weight will come off for a fair while without particular attention to exercise, as diet is the more important part at that point.
