Gracie Combatives
In response to my other thread:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=111571481
Gracie's go back and forth from 34 to 36 techniques, though I am guessing it doesn't make much difference. For those that don't know these moves are supposed to be the back bone of BJJ, and you move of from there...I am not sure how legit it is.
If you watch the video on this webpage:
http://www.myspace.com/gracieacademy
it explains how everything is supposed to work...it's a 17min video, skip to the 14th minute and from there it is explained by a Gracie...
Does anyone have a list of what these techiques might be? I have been looking but haven't found the "official 36 Gracie Combatives" and I was hoping for some MISC help...in all my looking I did find a link to US Army Combatives...here is that link:http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...150/index.html
If someone could find the 36 moves and post them that would be awesome...but at the same time I am thinking that you will be in the same place to defend yourself with 2 good months of MMA training. Anyone agree/disagree with this last statement?
To sum it up
Which is better to defend yourself
Gracie Combatives vs Two months good MMA Training vs Military Combatives

a large part of what we do at the lowest level is rifle but strokes, and bayonet stabs.
if you have an AR-15 with a bayonet attached, that's a great route. For any reason, race riot, russians invade, zombie attack.
But to defend yourself in a MMA match, I would venture that 2 GOOD months of MMA training would be better for you then watching videos of gracie combatives. however if i ever had the chance to train in gracie combatives, with a gracie, i would take it.
EDIT-- just read the Marine OCS... you SHOULD know that MCMAP isnt going to help you that much until you get to a green belt instructor level.

I have been considering trying to be certified in Gracie Combatives over one of my breaks from school, but the I just can't seeing the juice being worth the squeeze. I would have to travel pretty far and I could spend the money better else where I am sure.
I know MCMAP doesn't really help out that much, but I would like to see how it stacks up against Gracie's Combatives...but I am guessing that a few months of MMA training with a little background in Krav Maga or MCMAP would probably not hurt if a street fight ever did ensue.

yeah, if those are you options, just head to an MMA gym.
after you finish OCS, you can get higher up in MCMAP... the upper levels , from what I have been told, are very similar to the combative program that the army and now af are using (taught by gracie)
