Hypoglyecimia/Hyperinsulism's effect on diet and workouts
Ever since I was a kid I've never been able to skip a meal. I never knew why until I got older and learned from my mom about my family's history with low blood sugar and over secretion of insulin.
Although high insulin levels normally causes people to store excess fat, I've been able to keep my blood sugar balanced and exercise enough to get down to 8% body fat.
My only problem is that during workouts, I have to eat small pieces of candy in order to keep my sugar level up, and after my workouts, I can't eat the high glycemic index foods my body needs since it would cause my insulin to spike even higher.
Whole grains/complex carbs are great for me, since they slowly raise my blood sugar levels and my insulin levels are much better after eating them. But with my diet, I don't eat carbs after 4. I find myself without energy some evenings. Does anyone know how to remedy this?
And does anyone else have a similar blood sugar problem?

I used to, but I have been able to get and stay leaner after kicking the evening carbs. I noticed that keto type diets emphasize fats in the diet. Maybe I should get more fat in the evening?
Dr. Ben Lerner, former Olympic trainer and author of Maximized Living emphasizes more fats and less carbs in the evening, and that seems to work for me...with the exeption of the occasional energy drop.

so what, are you just eating protein then? eat carbs, restricing them past 4 is probably hurting you more than it is helping

I am also hypoglycemic. You should continue to eat carbs throughout the day and evening, just don't eat sugary ones (unless you feel your blood sugar dropping and then have a piece of fruit not candy). For instance, I cannot eat panckes with syrup or else I will definitely crash and get dizzy. Have some whole grains, oats, etc even after 4 and you will feel better and it certainly won't cause weight gain unless you are just adding excess calories.

Is this a fact? Did your Physician or Nutritionist told you so? Or is this something you are assuming based on your family's hypoglycemia???
Have you been diagnosed as hypoglycemic???

this is based on personal experience/metabolism. I haven't been diagnosed yet (since I don't go to the doctor), but my mother was and I have her exact metabolism. I can manage my blood sugar better by slowly raising my sugar level rather than eating higher sugar foods after workouts...
after 4 I am eating chicken, nuts, and tons of veggies.
I may try adding a small amount of grains in my evening meal and see if that helps.
thanks guys...

Why not? This could become a serious problem, so why not get tested for it?
Otherwise it could all be psychosomatic....
