Just got 500lb DL, help me get to 600lbs
So I started training deadlift in September when my local gym closed and I started working out in my campus' strength/conditioning gym. I never really took deadlifting seriously but I am started to get into them and want to get serious now.
I started DLing and I was at 405x1 just naturally and today I just hit 500x1 raw.
What do I do from here on out. My goal being 600lbs by the New Year if that is anything realistic.
Any and all help is appreciated!

adding an additional 100lbs in a little over 2 months would be insane. i dont doubt that you will be capable of getting 600 but, not in two months. you seem to be naturally strong so, i would suggest doing dl's one week and squats and good mornings the next. just a suggestion....im sure some of the more experienced guys can help you out more.

it is high and i agree completely. adding 100lbs in the short period of time you did is admirable. i started out w/ a 405x1 max too so that give me hope. i actually havent been training deadlifts and its up to 455x1 just from form improvements...i need to start training haha.

what i did was add 10lbs to my lift ever week or two weeks depending on how i felt for that session. i firmly believe you can always can lift more weight if you believe you can.

Mr. Gecko
I would check out madcow's 5x5... take a look at the weekly programming for deadlifts. I'd recommend something along those lines, a few ramped sets leading to a top set once a week, trying to add weight every week.

"Isolation" is stupid.
Good luck but don't get so caught up chasing a number that you lose sight of actually getting stronger. You won't get 100 pounds STRONGER on your deadlift in 2 months, but you might increase the lift 100 pounds in two months through improved technique or CNS adaptation. You might pull 600 by New Year's, but unless you have a meet that day I'd say focus on the long term.

Squat: 675, (8-22-2008)
Bench: 455, (8-22-2008)
Deadlift: 611, (3-29-2008)

So when your lifts go up through CNS adaptation that's not the same as getting stronger?

I'll admit that I might've worded that poorly, but I stand by the idea behind my post.

Can you clarify your post? I am having trouble understanding it.

Basically what I'm saying is that if you give yourself a lofty number to hit in a relatively short time frame, you can easily lose focus on the process of getting stronger. You max out too often, you get a little loose with your form, and you develop habits that may make it seem like you're getting stronger, but in reality you're just cutting little corner by little corner until you get to a point where there are no more corners to cut and unless you do an overhaul of how you train, you won't see any more progress. This isn't just some philosophical bull**** that I felt the need to spew out, it happened to me when I tried to go from a 500lb deadlift to a 600lb deadlift. Got up to 570 and got stuck for a long while, so much so that I had to completely re-learn proper deadlift technique and change the way I trained my deadlift. My deadlift dropped down to around 545, then steadily worked it's way up to a meet best of 611 and a gym best of 620.
If that is still fuzzy then just chalk it up to me being a poor internet communicator and move on, haha.

kinda, it means your teaching your body to push harder with what it has. Whether that mean synchronizing all your movements or just teaching yourself to actually use more of the muscle you already have.
CNS adaptation always preceeds increases in muscle size
