Question Front Squats in comparison to Back Squats

What is your front squat compared to your back squat? I'm wondering cuz I can't do back squats due to lack of a squat rack, and wanted to see if I can get a rough estimate of my back squat. Thanks guys.

Also what do you think my back squat would be if my front squat is 90 pounds for 5 reps?

front squat needs to be trained often to keep the number up.

i haven't front squatted in forever...I think my last front squat was back in march of this year.

the squat front or back is a pretty technical lift, so without training regularity you'll lose quite a bit on one or the the other.

my best front squat was 265, a couple of weeks laters I did 275 x 4 back squat and that was limit...I'm mostly quads, I did do 265 for 3 sets of 5 back squats last sunday though; generally front squat should be 80% of oly back squat.

if your limited in the weight you can you use, then you could try doing 20 rep squats or maybe over head squats.

Most I have front squatted was like 315 or something a bit over a year ago. I dont think I have front squatted anything more then 185 during a barbell complex since then.

I would guesstimate my backsquat is mid 5's whenever im able to train my squat for a few weeks.

Most people are strong enough to lift a lot more in the front squat, they just lack technique most of the time. It should be about 80-90% of your back squat imo. Front squat is not necessary for a powerlifter, I don't feel it works the quads more but core yes. Its a decent accessory and great for a lot of other sports and if your doing power cleans of any sort would be necessary.

Couple of things here. If you are doing front squats, you are not doing Rippetoe's. Just saying. Your gonna have to get access to some equipment, which you probably already know. Won't take long to go through 150#.

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

    front: 315x4x5 off a low box...so maybe 375-85ish for 1?
    back: 545

I just started doing front squats for real like 6 weeks ago...used to be like 225/500. really.

whats it mean if its like 100 lbs away

and while i agree 375 is a long jump from 295 he could be taking the 295 really deep and the 375 to parallel

Some 1RPM calculators for squat use 1.2 for sets of 5 which would put 295 for 5 around 355. These tools could be a bit off depending on strengths of the lifter. Purely speculating but I imagine a lifter with a ton of fast twitch muscle fibers might skew towards a heavier max.

    Anyway my front squat sucks.

1rm calculators suck. I would say 120% of your 5rm is being pretty generous in most cases. but it is certainly possible.

100lbs or more away means most likely your technique is bad in the front squat since your not used to it. Or that your back squat is not nearly as low as you think.

Also what do you think my back squat would be if my front squat is 90 pounds for 5 reps?
As with most lifters, my front squat numbers are definitely less than my back squats numbers. I haven't maxed out (raw) on either for a while-this vid is almost a year old...

Just curious, which kind of grip do you use for Front Squats?

it could mean you are really fast-twitch and you have no endurance so you burn out trying to get to 5 reps.

    what is your 5rm/1rm?

**edit** wait are you saying your back squat 5rm is 100 pounds under your 1rm or that your front squat is 100 pounds under your back squat?
