Lats & Pull Up Question
I have a home gym, however, my weight bench does not have the lat attachment (not sure if that's what it would be called) and I don't have any cables. I do miss these items and always used them at the gym. I was thinking about ordering a pull-up attachment for the door way. Has anyone used one of these and have any good recommendations? Also, what kind of exercises can I do at home to work these muscles without this equipment.
Thanks,
Kim

Something like this..

Pullups, chinups, hanging leg raises, situps, pushups, etc...

Do you have a squat rack? If so you can just put the bar up as high as it will go and do pullups from that.

the bigger the better
What about something along these lines?

It would depend on how much space you have though, but it's a good little station that you can do dips on, ab leg raises, pullups, chins...
I am hesitant about the door pullup thingy...My bf and I went to a fitness equipment store once and the guy was trying everything to get us to buy one. My bf is 6'1 and over 200 lbs...it would NOT work for someone like him as there would be no room for him to move his body up and down in our doorways!

Always bulking....
I have a door chin up bar in the doorway to my extra bedroom i use as my lil home gym. The weight it can hold is 200lbs. I'm 165 to 167 (I hover) so its adequate for me. I even have the option of adding some weight via a belt if needed. But if you are just looking for something easy and cheap to install buy one from Sports Authority or another sports store. Mine cost 20 bucks and took about 5 minutes to install.
Don't have room for a full station of dips/pulls up etc, wish I did. If you have that option go that route its better. But a pull up bar in the door way is the easiest to fix if you choose to remove it. Attaching a station to the way can be hard (studs) and damages the wall.
Good luck!

I know, I was just giving my opinion, as for some it would not be adequate.

I may go this route depending what my sports authority store has.

I wonder if I might have the room for a squat rack. I would love to have one. How much room do you need for one of those or do they make one that does not take up alot of room?
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions.

That's why I posted it. I had a cantilever bar like this (not this one). I don't recall what webstore I bought it from but if I remember correctly it was mainly boxing supplies. The best thing about a cantilever is that it is the weight of the user that keeps it up.

To work your lats with BBs and DBs:
Wide grip BB rows, pull to your waist for upper lats. The trick is to pull to your waist area.
DB rows, pull to your waist for lower lats. Keep elbow close to body.
Many people (myself included) get lots of lat movement out of bent arm pullovers.
On this website, you gotta get the rep. points first. Then when you get the rep. points, you get the power...then when you get the power, then you get the women.
Is it better to be loved or have bb.com rep points? That's a good question. It's great to be both, but it's very difficult. But if I had my choice, I would rather have bb.com rep points. BB.com rep points last longer than love.

Or you could just go with a pipe from your local hardware store, that's what I did. I just got the round things that the pipe fits into and screwed them to the walls in my hall then just insert the pipe in those....

I went to Sports Authority today and they had the Iron Gym Pull up bar in stock for 29.99. I came home, put together in about 10 minutes and I think it will be perfect for what I need and the room I have. It was better than ordering it online because I could return it if I didn't like it or if it didn't fit my doorway. Plus I didn't have to pay for shipping. Thanks again everyone.
This is what I purchased:

That doesn't work when you weigh as much as I do (and did)

My husband just got the Iron Gym pull up bar and it's great so far. He's 225 lbs and it holds his weight fine. I'm still working on the ability to do pull ups so now I have no excuse. Good luck.
