Supplements for beginners on a budget
I just started working out this month after not exercising in....well I can't even remember. I'm on an Aircraft Carrier and was lucky enough to "inherit" some Ion Whey. It's good!! It mixes well and tastes like hot chocolate. I was wondering if anyone had some advice or suggestions on what beginners on a budget could take. I'm trying to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

get bulk creatine, bulk protein, and maybe a multi. other than that my friend thats all I'd need. how are your test levels being 36? I'm a personal trainer and one of my clients (whom was 33) had low test from massive alcoholism earlier in life.
as for the "gain muscle and lose fat'
diet down to a weight that you're happy with... then build up from there. it may appear you're "gaining muscle" when its really just showing you what you already have. all the best.

Fish oil caps can make an inexpensive but valuable addition. I'd add those to your diet daily. Creatine and glutamine powders are also available for very affordable prices these days. A good protein like Optimum Nutrition is also a good value, especially when you shop online instead of some of those stores I will leave nameless.

As for just the basic I would go with a protein powder and a good multi. But Wal Mart has bulk creatine for $9.00 for 80 servings, glutamine for $10.00 for 60 servings and check out the Six Star line. The Six Star supplements are made by the same company as Muscle Tech and the Six Star Hardcore: whey protein is almost the exact same as Muscletech: Nitro Tech before it was Nitro Tech Hardcore.

the glutamine, once again... i would question the purity.. and look at the supp science section best of, and the glutamine. its too controversial to be looked upon as a "staple" and he's asking for a budget (yes the wal mart brand is cheap... but the purity... i dunno bout dat one.)
six star don't go with.
iovate I'm not friends with.

You can get better quality products on bodybuilding.com for the same price as the walmart products.
Here's my list of supps in order of importance:
1 - multivitamin (walmart or generic brand is fine)
2 - fish oil (walmart, sams club, or costco brands)
3 - whey protein powder, buy in 10lb bags to save money (scivation and optimum are good brands and a good price)
4 - bulk creatine monohydrate (primaforce or optimum are good)
5 - bulk caffeine pills (if you like stims pre-WO)
6 - BCAA's (good for cutting and maintaining muscle mass)
Also don't forget the importance of diet, without getting your diet in check your results will not be optimal regardless of supplement intake.

The brands and products in my sig are reputable. You can purchase everything from the bb.com store. The BCAA+G and Elastamine are optional.
Make sure you use a 10% off coupon.

Building muscle while losing fat is a tough proposition at the best of times. I would recommend that you spend a considerable time on figuring out your diet and exercise regimen. Since you are on a carrier, that's going to likely be the toughest part. With respect to supplements, protein powders and creatine monohydrate are likely your best bets.

I was in the same boat when I first started lifting man. Here is what I would recommend. Get a good multivitamin and start taking some protein shakes. Also since your on a budget make sure your eating clean, because that is going to do more good than the supplements will in the beginning. Good luck man!

Whey Protien, good Multi, creatine, Fish oil. I've been looking into all this for some time, bought the bulk creatine at Walmart (can't complain). Bought the Glutamine, can't say I recommend it yet. Bulk Whey, mixed with milk and ground oats seems to work for gaining muscle, but losing fat while gaining muscle seems pretty hard (I've been trying it for months, and been gaining muscle, but losing fat very slowly)
Best of luck.
