Ive had severe tendenitits for 2 years now!!

Ok I have now had tendonitis on the outside of my left elbow for two years now. I fell that I have tried evrything. It started hurting when I was doing bench presses. A sharp pain. I didnt think it was anything and pushed through it for about a month. I then went to the doc and got a cortizone shot. It did nothing, but I stayed out of the gym for a week. I then went back to working out and pushed through it for a few more months. I then went to two more doctors and they told me there was nothing I can do except rest and another shot. I got another shot and stayed out of the gym for about 3 months. My arm started to fell good, but as soon as I returned to the gym even doing light weight the tendonitis came right back! I tried to work out light weight for a while even with it hurting and wouldnt even do benchpress. My arm would ache when I woke up and during the day. Very stiff and painfull. It would hurt to extened it all the way. I then went to another doctor who told me he could fix it. I had surgery a year ago and after extensive rehab I started light weight in the gym. I was fine for about 2 months and it returned. I then stopped working out for about 4 months ut would still ache from time to time. I started going back to therapy and my doctor put me on naproxen for the inflamation which really seemed to help. I have been doing home therpy and ice since. I have been going to the gym for the last two weeks doing very very light curls and forearm butterflies and rows. These are about the anly exercises I have found I can do without waking up with a stiff elbow the next morning. I am so frustrated with this. Does anyone have any ideas on anything that I might could try? Thanks in advance. Any help will me much appreciated.

Stop working out & stop getting cortizone shots!

if you have severe tendonitis, then extended rest is the only solution. How long? Longer than you've tried so far. There is some positive commentary about LED (light) therapy. Also, look up and compare tendonosis vs tendonitis.

The cortisone shots will weaken the tendons/ligaments, so you are creating a vicious cycle....injure tendon, get shot, weaken tendon, feel better, workout with weakened tendon, re-injure tendon, get shot (and so on)...

...let your body do it's work. Sleep more. Eat better. Give it time.

    Training regularly but no progress?
You need one or more of these: more food, more weight, more reps or more rest.

I rested for 4 months without touching a weight. It didnt help. somethimes I think doing light weights actually helps the pain more than doing nothing.

VERY light weights...yes. Stay away from normal weights for at least six months.

Look up TENDINOSIS and compare to TENDONITIS

Hi mate i just posted this in another thread for a guy suffering from the same problem, im not saying you should take this path but this is what worked for me, just food for thought thats all.

Hi mate i think i may be able to shed some light on the steroids info for curing your problem.

a few years ago i developed tendonitis of the elbow, it quickly progressed were i couldn't barely use my arm, i tried all the natural treatments and even bought myself one of those forearm supports that have a strap that puts pressure on the forearm.

I had a cortisone shot from the doc that did the trick.......but then soon returned

so i decided to treat it myself with steroids, don't get me wrong im no novice and i do my research on everything i use.

I did previous cycles of steroids for muscle building and this didn't help with the tendonitis much, so this time around i structured my cycle around muscle building and tendon healing.

The cycle i used contained testosterone propionate and stanazolol (winny).

about half way through the cycle i noticed more freedom in the movement of my arm, then the next week or so the pain had totaly gone and i had full use of my arm, BUT i didnt go crazy lifting big weights!.

The reason i chose the steroids i did was purely through research and what i thought would be beneficial to me!.

Testosterone is known to reduce collagen synthesis to that of an elderly person, but this wasnt any concern to me as the test was there purely for muscle repair and recovery.

The magic bullet was stanazolol (winstrol), this is known to increase collagen synthesis in a big way, winny builds big thick ligaments BUT they are not as strong as if they were grown normally, the reason is that the cross linking integrity of the ligament fibers becomes compromised.

anyway i used my cycle to build muscle and repair the damaged tendon, then after my cycle i got to work on strengthening my repaired tendon by doing different excersises

since that cycle i never had a problem with the elbow again and train pain free with full strength.

One last thing before i go, i had a shoulder impingement and cured this with steroids aswell.

doctors failed me both times but my knowledge and research cured my injuries.

    hope my experiences help

Are you taking supplements? At least copper along with MSM and glucosamine. Copper is the main nutrient behind tissue and collagen repair, so make sure you supplement or at least eat foods rich in it. i.e peanuts, peanut butter, etc.

Rest until tendinitis subsides. It may take a while, and it sucks. Take http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/now/gcm.html + http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/usp/super.html to help speed things up. You wont be sorry. Taking a fish oil and a vitamin C or eating some Vitamin C in your diet will also help.

Then when you get back to training start with the lighter stuff and each week go heavier. Before training make sure to be warm it up really well. Warming up, warm up sets and stretches are very important in preventing injuries. I think people with tendinitis should always benefit from stretching. But a physio or sports specialist is your best bet. Those rubber elbow supports are awsome if you havnt tried.
