Why is working out everyday harmful?

Guys Just wondering...if I split my workout up the following way, would it be harmful?

    Monday-BodyPump class
    Tuesday-Chest
    Wednesday-Back
    Thursday-Rest
    Friday-Bicep/Tricep/Forearm
    Saturday-Legs
    Sunday-Shoulders/Abs(weighted abs)

I read in a lot of places that working out everyday is harmful...but I tried this one week and I dont see why its harmful...I'm able to concentrate more on the individual muscle groups and am able to get more out of my sets.....!!

ps.I was following a 3-day split before this

Advantage is that this workout lasts around 20 mins + and gives me a good 40-45 mins for cardio.....

    cheers

Even though you aren't working the same muscle twice you still aren't giving your body any time to rest and recover.

Recovery is just as important if not more important than exercise because this is the time your body takes to heal and grow stronger.

Edit - you have a rest day though, so your workout 6 days a week, I workout at least 6 days.

what is a bodypump class and why do you need it?
finally got back into the weight room today to see where I'm at a lil over a week from the injury. I got good and warm before attempting anything, but I noticed in certain lifts I had to pay extra attention to keep from crapping myself...

A body pump class is a full body workout with very low weights and high reps....I do it to build stamina for my muscles....plus its a great cardio-ish workout.....

Agreed it's a really good class actually and I used to do it for cardio.

    Excellent for muscle endurance.

working out everyday isnt necessarily harmful

you need to consider a number of things like what are you actually training for. then also in the case of weight training you need to see VolumeXDifficulty because you are not only looking at your muscle recovery but also your nervous system. your cns is what sends all the electrical signals to your muscles to fire.

the amount of time you need to rest is kind of tied to how much volumexdifficulty you hit the muscle with in a given session. If you do 15 sets of squats to failure in a leg workout you would probably want to take it easy the next day and maybe traing legs again in 5-6 days. but on the other hand if your leg workout consisted of 3 sets of squats to failure you could probably feel pretty good to go and do the same thing 48 hours later or even less.

then your sleep, stress and nutrition is going to effect you if your eating really good, taking your creatine and vitamins and ****. Treating your body like a well oiled machine. you could probably handle more taxing workouts than some dude that only drinks and eats when he is thirsty and hungry. lol

Your BodyPump day is pretty much equivilent to a rest day (it's more endurance than resistance training), and many people just scratch the arm days and opt to slot bis and tris elsewhere in the split. So you're not really in disagreement with that mentality to any significant degree.

It's not... working out everyday at near max intensity is what will get you in trouble. I also like to toss in a light weight full body circuits for cardio on my 'rest days' just to keep busy, they've actually proved to be quite good for my joints.

Just be sure that your nutrition and sleep is there, and thats about all.

It won't be in the short term.

In the long term, you're at risk for over-exertion and injury.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

You will eventually overtrain if you lift everyday. When your in that state, your prone to injuries as well. You won't feel like going to the gym to lift. Also, your cns as somebody said earlier needs a break from lifting weights. You should also give yourself like a one week break every 3 months from lifting. Trust me you'll feel a lot better if you do this.

yeah and I lift weights at least four days a week and?

I also try and take a bodypump class every now and again because it is damn good cardio and if you do it properly instead of pissing about it does actually work on your muscle endurance...

They do a four count squat do this in the middle of little squats at the bottom, two count squats and normal squats and you'll soon see what it's all about.

I used to knock it because I see people in there with piss poor form and no one correcting them, it's hard because there's only one trainer and she needs to lead the class and can't spend time teaching everyone form - ideally for a class like that you need two people, they also call SLDL's, just deadlift.

anyways - I decided to try it one day and I'm thinking well I know my form is good and I'll do what I was taught regardless and after that I learned some respect for the class.

Its not harmful completely but its not useful to the body nor it will help you achieve your goal...

If you work out on a day to basis without any gaps or off days then the body wont get any rest and time to recoup the lost energy... when you provide sufficient rest after the workouts it ensures increase in strength and also helps you to avoid fatigue... so

ensure gap of a day in between the workouts and include cardio on off days...
Check out my progress and how I went from 157lbs to 191lbs in 9 months..
