Misc Computer experts; Help me choose a High-End Laptop

Hey guys,

Looking to get a new laptop for CAD Applications (CATIA V5, Solid Edge, Unigraphics) and some slight gaming.


What I want:

4+GB DDR3 RAM

512 +++ MB graphics

2.3 GHZ +++ Processor

Windows XP

No Price limit (but cheaper would be better aka not $ 5000+)


What I looked at:

(1) Dell XPSTM M1730 [NO DDR3 RAM!]

4GB DDR2 RAM, 2.5 GHZ, Dual 512MB SLI GeForce? 8800GTX card

(2) Alienware Area-51? m15x [NO DDR3 RAM!]

4GB DDR2 RAM, 2.8 GHZ, 512MB NVidia? GeForce? Go 8800M GTX

(3) Toshiba Qosmio X300 series [THIS HAS DDR3]

8 GB DDR3 RAM, 2.4 GHZ Duo Centrino, NVIDIA? | NVIDIA? GeForce? 9700M GTS supporting TurboCache technology or NVIDIA? | NVIDIA? GeForce? 9800M GTX supporting TurboCache? technology

(4) Toshiba Qosmio F50 series [NO DDR3 RAM!]

4-8GB DDR2 RAM, 2.26 GHZ Centrino duo, GeForce? 9600M GT supporting TurboCache? technology






What I currently have:

Dell XPS M1710

1GB RAM, 512MB Graphics, 2.33ghz duo centrino

Dont be too keen on DDR3. The new memory has slow timings and latency but considering its a laptop i doubt they would give an option of high end ddr2 ram so either way.

the sager np9262 is an absolute beast, you can get a quad core processor for it

edit: you can get this one fully loaded with ddr3, 2.5ghz C2D, and 9800GTS for $2000. Only a 15" screen though. you're also probably going to have to buy/download xp x64 because most companies don't offer xp, much less the 64 bit version
