Nice work, CJ. Weights are getting back up there. Do you think you'll have some room to move your bench up further before changing plans?

Refresh my memory, what is your best squat?

Thanks, Matt. I think I have about 10 more pounds give or take of progress for bench press, but that can be spread out with micro loading. I'd say in about two weeks I will have to change programming. I struggled a bit today, and bar speed was much slower. My best squat is 3x5x255.

10 more lbs of progress on bench press would be pretty significant.

Great job on the squats CJ. Also looks like you're closing in on the big wheels for power cleans. How do you do them now - set them on plates or blocks to get the right height?

Thanks, Ron. I actually just clean right from the floor, with no added plates or blocks. I have tried it before during my warm-ups, and even working sets awhile ago, but it was really annoying. I always had to watch myself lower the bar, so it lands perfectly on the plates. The difference between the diameters of the 35 lb and 45 lb plates isn't too big, so it's nothing really to worry about.

Nice job on the OH press CJ. I agree about the belt on deadlifts - I have never been able to find a way to pull from the floor with a belt where it felt like it helped rather than hurt.

Like anything else it might take some adjustment to get used to. I think to abandon it after one attempt would be a mistake.

Bally's had the same situation, I told him the same thing... now he uses it fine. Had the exact same thing play out with my gf too.

Thanks, Mike. No, the only exercise I belt up for are squats, but I just wanted to try it again with deadlifts.

Belting up takes a little while to get used to especially if you have a smaller torso. I like to focus on pushing my abs out against the belt and that seems to make sure it doesn't jab me.

    COMMENTS:
I wasn't feeling it today, and neither was my knee. I've come to the conclusion that it only happens on Saturday. Maybe it has something to do with not squatting heavy for more than a few days. Anyway, I decided to cut squats short, especially since form was awful. Bench press surprised me, I felt on Tuesday I could definitely bypass this, but I guess not today. I also decided to start cleaning only once a week, and my chinning strength surprised me. Seems like transitioning into the Texas Method will be happening soon.

Hope the knee feels better. And you will get that bench press next time, just keep at it.

Nice work CJ. For the longest time I couldn't squat on Mondays. I had to change my training days to Tue, Thurs & Sat. How is your setup on the bench? Are you in a rack, do you have a spotter?

Thanks, Mike. Like I said earlier, it is usually only on Saturdays that my knee feels that way. Maybe from all of the gathered work from the entire week?

Thanks, Vic. I bench in a power rack, so if I fail, all I need to do is unarch my back and the bar will just fall onto the safety pins.

I was going to say, I was able to lift heavier once I started benching in the rack...

It was exactly three months ago I stalled at 3x5x102.5 for press, so I'm happy to finally set a PR. Had to use some back to get the last rep of the last set up, but other than that it felt solid. Power clean form was awful, I'll probably reset soon. There was too much arm pulling.

Nice pressing, CJ! There is a lot to be said for how deliberate and patient you are about progression. It will really pay off in the long run. Keep plugging on.
