most compete in a local show first, then work up to a state NPC show. they can then go to nationals if they qualify(win their state npc show).
becoming an ifbb pro is next to impossible for the avg person....start your goals a bit lower(just being honest). I did a small state show for my first competition, and I ended up winning it which made me feel awesome. I wouldve taken dead last at a bigger competition thoughI got no strings to hold me down
To make me fret or make me frown
I had strings, but now I'm free
I got no strings on me

yes what the above poster said.
but you need to put in lot and lots and lots and lots......of hard work and determanation.also it takes time lots of time but you have that on your side.also the most inportant thing,DONT GIVE UP.if thats what you truly want, and it may take the better half of twenty years to get there but you will get there.one more thing dont listen to anything thats negative,if thats what you want than go for it.2008 npc ct grand prix heavyweight 1st [nat.qualify]

Just to get a little more technical...
You have to compete in a local / regional NPC (National Physique Committee) show which is listed as a "National Qualifier". If you place in the Top 2 in an open class(open meaning not "novice") of a National Qualifier then you can compete in a National level show (like the USA Championships or Nationals) which are often Pro-Qualifiers. However only the very top placings get you qualified to turn professional. Once you become professional you stop competing in the NPC and start competing in the IFBB. The NPC and the IFBB are connected, and only to each other so if you want to compete in a different organization (WFNA or something) then you won't ever be able to qualify for the IFBB with that organization.
That's the shortest possible route. But realistically, nobody only competes twice before they turn pro, for most people it takes years and years of competing locally and then at the National level.other bands play, Manowar Kills!
