Knocked on color

Hey guys...Just finished my first show and my color was mentioned as a downfall from the judges. What I don't get is that I thought I loaded up on protan and slapped some dream tan #2 on as well and thought my color was great. started wed. with 2 coats of protan, 2 coats every night after. showered saturday morning and 2 coats of dream tan. what else could I have done? Thanks

I did 6 coats of protan, all the night before, and 2 coats of dream tan right before stage time. It turned out great.

when did you put the dream tan on? how long before stage?

Also, which color of dream tan did you use? ...the red or the gold? I thought the gold would look good on me (I have blonde hair) but it looked terrible. I did a test run the week before the show. So I tried the red and it looked much better.

There is a point where you can put too much color on and it covers up some definition or with protan especially, if you have too much on w/o rinsing between coats can start to look bad. WHat did the judges say about your color other than it being a downfall?

The likely cause is applying the dream tan incorrectly/too thick. Impossible to tell without pics though.

I used 2 coats of a spray tan - they had it set up for us at the show - color was great but I also had a pretty good suntan going into it. Don't most shows offer spray tanning?

As far as I know, all the NPC shows in ohio/ky offer spray tanning. I think if you don't see it in your area now you will soon as it is becoming more popular. It's a bit pricey but for the peace of mind you get knowing you don't have to worry about your color - worth every penny

It was about $100 for a couple coats but like you said worth every penny. In my opinion if you are going to put yourself through the rigors of a contest prep then this is a reasonable price to pay to show all your hard work. On another note I was amazed at how terrible some of the posing suits looked on the guys - alot were too baggy or looked like a posing suit from the 1950s - there are some really nice inexpensive suits available on the iternet so I dont understand why someone would neglect that...

I know some judges do not like dream tan at ALL. I've heard it's even been banned from being used at some comps.

that's because it's messy if people aren't careful.

I showered excess protan sat morning and applied 2 coats of dream tan about 3-4 hours before prejudging and touched up before stepping on stage. The judges just said I needed to be darker.
Leading up to the show, I applied 2 coats of PT every night starting wed and showered the excess the following mornings. Thanks again guys

your color was pretty good honestly, you could have been darker, but from that picture I wouldn't say it was bad color at all

Your color looks fine to me. You could be a little darker, like the guy on far left, but look how you compare to some of the other guys.

If the judges think your color was poor, then I hate to think what they told some of the other guys in that photo.

No kidding. I thought it was pretty good as well. Maybe a little darker. I did dyoderm/protan mix, only 3 coats for my show, with a light applciation of DT #2. I was pleased and got good comments. You looked similar. I think protan has balanced out their color some, so it's more accomodating to different skin tones.

I think your color looked good. Problem is every judge has a different opinion.

The key is to understand you skin tone and use what works best for you. Practice, practice, practice.

ProTan works for almost everyone when used properly. In fact we just became the official tanning company of the IFBB since the judges liked our color so much. At the olympia this year we tanned nearly every male pro including Dennis Wolfe and Dexter Jackson. We did not Tan Jay Cutler.

The results speak for themselves. Sometimes when you use dream tan if not applied properly you can cover your definition and look really muddy. Try our quick bronze on top of 4-5 coats of our Competition Color and you will be perfect everytime.

Thanks for all the responses guys. It helps to get this kind of feedback. Yeah, it was SNBF in georgia. I think it may be the only natural organization in ga. I could be wrong. How do you guys think I should change my approach next time? Thanks again. i really appreciate it.

Nope no stock in Pro Tan. Dream Tan is a good product, but since it does not Dry it makes a mess of venues. Promoters end up being charged for cleaning fees for damages done. I have seen a few venues and was glad I didnt have to pick up the cleaning bill.

Not Knocking dream tan its just the nature of this type of product.
