I once heard from someone that when you do shrugs with dumbbells, you should move your shoulder back as well when you lift your shoulders. Have you guys ever heard of this? Is there a difference from using dumbbells or barbel for shrugs?

Proper Way
Proper shrugs should be done like power cleans
- Chin Forward
- Soulder blades Back and Down
So there's no shrugging of the shoulders in that technique(Shoulders dont come forward against your ears), the shoulders stay back, and its the whole upper back/lower traps that contract. Powerfull movement and better posture wise.Check out my progress and how I went from 157lbs to 191lbs in 9 months..

I never roll my shoulders when doing shrugs. I try to bring my shoulders to my ears and hold it at the top for a couple seconds.
"Shut up and lift!"
"Eat big to get big."
"Deadlift and grow."
'Train, Eat, Sleep."
"Knowledge is power."
"What does not kill you, will make you stronger."
Ergo sum fortissimus.
