Smile Hex dumbbells - % of 1RM to buy?

Thinking about getting my first set of hex dumbbells, there's obviously the problem of the weight being restrictive.

Does anyone have an idea of what % of 1RM you should aim to buy, if for example you were to start off with just one set. For example a weight that's 80% of 1RM.

I feel I could do a lot of work with a pair of 22.5 kgs (50lb), but that's not near my 1RM for anything but shoulders. Similarly, my preference is to lift heavy, low reps for triceps and biceps, but it would suck if I bought some hex's and didn't use them most of the time.

Uh oh, it looks like I may need more than one set!

I'm confused, are you talking about buying one pair?

If so, watch craigs list, you can normally buy a set of 5-50 for $100 or so.

Yeah, one pair for starters. I've been working for years with plates. Tho I just read that someone else is using hex's for high reps and plates for heavy/

Get a set! What you use on arm exercises, you won't be able to use for rows or shoulder exercises.

    Any good?

Found these two at reasonable prices, looks like craigslist could be a long wait:

Any good in terms of quality?:

They look like the neat ones under the Marcy brand, but are they cheap imitations do you guys think?
