Do you guys..

Actually follow the teachings and philosophy of your particular religion?

I happened to notice that a lot of people say they go to church and are religious, but do most of these people actually follow the philosophy that Jesus, Confucius or Socrates or Muhammad actually lived? These people never wrote books or anything but taught and lived their philosophies.

Looking in from an outside view and seeing how the world is, I'll just take a wild guess and say no, people don't actually follow the basic philosophies of their beloved religions. They tend to rationalize war and their greed and lust. They'll say they are religious, but it seems they just say such things to feel self rightous, feel that is good enough. Religion is used for power it seems.

Religion is like a cult imo. Just something to say you are. Most the people in the world are religious or say they are, but if i came from another planet I wouldn't believe people cared for anything but their good and money and fame.

I don't know, what I say is just from an outsider observer looking in at the world today. From experience with proclaimed religious people and such.

Please feel free to express your opinions..

Frst off I am a Christian, and yes, I have a deep desire to follow after Christ. The reason you see many people going to church and still not living the life is because the fleshly person is very much alive and thriving. Seems like we all miss the mark sometimes, but it is important that we just do not show up in our Sunday suit and pretend to know and love Christ, see we can clean up nice and pretty on the outside, but on the inside it can still be dirty. What I mean is there are pretenders out there who claim to know and love Jesus, but do we really? Jesus teaches if we love him we will obey his Word. It is easy to say with our mouth that we love him, but it is a different thing in living it out in our everyday life. We as Christians need to get serious about our walk with the Lord, because after all we can all pretend and present any image we desire to others, but God searches the heart and he knows the real us.The things you mention like lust and greed are acts or desires of our fleshly nature, I will go out on a limb and say we have all struggled with something like what you speak of at one time or another, we must choose; do we desire purity of heart of earthly gain? It is times such as these that we will find out something about ourselves and where we really are in our walk. YOu are right in saying that some religions are cults, and one day God will seperate the wheat from the tare, meaning just because we say we are something does not make it so, seems like what you are seeing in today's times is not jsut an illusion to you, it is happening, people say one thing with their mouth and do other things with their actions, and where I come from actions speak louder than words.Lastly, you are right about if you just came here from another planet you would not believe people cared about anything, that is good to hear because God is looking down at the same thing that you see and I would not think he is pleased. Here is the question we all need to ask ourself, When Jesus comes back to take us home will he recognize us?

While a cult can have a religion not all religions are not cults. The term cult typically refers to extremest and therefore, take on a negative connotation. Since that's not the case with every religion I wouldn't use the appellation to refer to religions.
