I read that if you do squats the wrong way, like a powerlifter, you'll end up with a huge butt, like a horse, and also a huge waist. This is scary. How can you do squats without getting a butt like a horse and a waist like a ton?

I can remember that ronnie said in an interview after one of his olympia wins that he bought his waist down in size by wearing his belt throughout the entire workout. Granted he also changed his diet. Ill try and find the video.

by increasing pressure, it decreases oblique muscle fiber recruitment. some study showed that while wearing it the abs were still called on, but the obliques had to do significantly less work. Having a wide waist comes from overdeveloping the obliques. So if you use them less, then the hope is that they'll shrink (just like any other muscle) and slim down the waist.

It's rubbish. Weider told him to wear a belt in the gym all the time for obvious reasons: it pulls his gut in when he's porked up in the off-season and accentuates his V-taper which looks better for magazine shoots.
^^^ Beats me how anyone could argue that squats won't increase waist size to some degree. Abs, obliques, and erectors are all heavily involved in stabilizing the weight. All of them contribute to waist size. As for the glutes, it's a no-brainer. Squats and deadlifts will increase the size of your ass, period.

This has been proved wrong time and time again. Get as much depth as you can. It's not going to hurt your knees. If anything, when people go parallel they tend to stop with their knees, causing more stress than if you're just passing through the parallel position, and then coming back up. I'm not saying parallel will ruin your knees either, but you should go for the gusto if you're going to do squats.
Bench press - 175x4 (200)
Dead lift - 355# (400)
Squat - 4x225# x three sets (300)
Military Press - 6x120# (BW)
BB Row - 6x155# (175)

LOL just prooves the point of the useless other info that companys use to show "results" in most cases when the thing that made the biggest difference is either not there at all or in fine print at the bottom.
Also if Ronnie did really believe the belt would help his waist, well, it sure didn't work lol."I'm worried about deadlifts too. I mean the word "dead" has got to be in there for a reason. Are you sure they won't kill me?" - olympic
