Why would people say anything else than smell? I know a couple people who can't smell. They say eating has lost its meaning/flavor but thats it.

excellent point. it would be so ****ing easy to maintain a healthy diet if everything tastes the same. I change my vote to taste. plus smell plays a bigger role than taste in everything but eating.
