I always wear compression shorts under my gym shorts. I usually run before I lift to get the juices flowin', however.

I wear this to the gym; no one bugs me about "working in."

I wear spandex leggings sometimes when I come straight from the track to the gym. If I'm just going to the gym on an off day or something I will wear regular basketball shorts though.
I personally don't really understand the hate on spandex, doesn't really seem like that big of a deal to me.

I'm happy to say that I haven't seen any guys sporting this look. At least 4 out of 10 girls do though, 3 out of 10 who can pull it off.

Haha for the same reason that wierdo's on this site post pictures of their "legs" and clearly the image is focused on this package. Lack of self esteem, probably the only time other people see their goods... zaaaaa

only thing gayer than the guy in spandex shorts is the guy checking him out (OP)

haha honestly if I were confident enough, I would.
I wouldn't have to worry about my shorts rising(deadlifts) or getting caught in my knees(squatting). Think what I see powerlifters wear are briefs of some sort? I dunno if they have an official name, squatting briefs or whatever, but I'd use em.Bodybuilders, Power lifters, Olympic lifters: We are ALL weight lifters!
Enough with all the bull****.

There's one guy at my gym who wears spandex, but they're more of a pants and not shorts. He only wears them on the days he does deadlifts so the bar can move up and down his legs easier.

it's the leg that's the issue, not the shorts.
I started out in gyms back in the day when every third dude wore those spandex shorts that had the big stripes. Back in those days (late 80's, early 90's) the whole "alpha guy in the gym" thing was about being so well built that you could get away with showing it off and still being impressive. Then the pendulum swung the other way, and bodybuilders thought being alpha was akin to having more modesty than a Catholic school girl. Show any skin above the knee, and CLEARLY you are offending the masses.
So, I have training long enough to see it both ways.
it all just reminds me of something I was told when I was still a kid. It was told to me by one of the HUGEST dudes in our gym (he was massive - some big NPC local name). Now, I don't think I ever saw him working out and NOT also wearing that stripey spandex gear. But he told me a simple rule about spandex:
"If a dude is wearing spandex and all you notice is the spandex, then he has no right wearing it. But if a dude is wearing spandex and all you notice is his awesome leg development, then he is allowed to keep it up."
In other words, shorts are only too short on a leg if you notice the shorts more than you notice the leg.
I have to say I agree. Crappy legs -- or even just "average" legs -- in spandex make me wince and cringe. Awesome, well-developed legs, well, I get envious and it motivates me to go hit the heavy leg equipment.
But I also say to each their own. I'm American at heart, and chill with whatever. Live and let live, I say. Who cares? Just because I don't like it doesn't always mean it is ultimately wrong.www.TheNextLevel.me

Hmmm if its solid it might help with bench pressing by decreasing the rom.
j/k
Ontopic: If your comfortable wearing it I guess more power to you. Personally if my legs become the size of Jupiter's arse I will not wear them I enjoy loose clothes to workout in *shrug*Last edited by Sir_Malak; 04-23-2010 at 05:21 AM.

yg, those I have worn before but as the other poster said its usually covered by baggy shorts.
I will admit it will show off legs much better and if you have good quality should have good air flow...some of the cheap brands feel like they are strangling your legs.2014 Misc Raw Bench Press Contest winner in the 276lb+ 555lb lift @ ~280lbs

I always find it humorous that all these big guys always hate on people wearing slim fit jeans and then they wear this skin tight spandex that is 10x tighter than anything I'd try getting into... kind of hypocritical lol.
Anyhow I think it looks awkward. Especially on a really big guy. Actually I take that back. it looks awkward on anyone.Last edited by rkrajnov; 04-23-2010 at 07:55 AM.
