OK was deadlifting normally from the floor today only up to 315 warming up then decided to do some defecit deadlufts since I've only done them about once ever. It was a 4 inch defecit but as I started pulling on the defecit it felt Wayyy better then from the floor. Like I felt all my muscles firing right. When I deadlift from the ground its mostly my lower back that I feel being worked hardcore. But from the defecit I felt my hamstrings glutes all working for some reason. Its safe to say if I maxed out my defecit would be more than my dead from the ground today. What could this be?

Since you arent even up to a double BW deadlift, you probably have some deficiencies and form issues to fix up first. Just because one submaximal lift feels "waaay better" doesnt mean you are actually stronger.
At my 1RM attempts I can break a lift from the ground that I cant lock up, like a lot of other lifters.

IMO your a quad deadlifter meaning you have strong legs getting into that deeper squat position you get the stronger quads to get the weight moving which is good in one sense but bad in another.
You've identified your weakness(low back/lumbars).
With heavier weight i would think you'd have trouble locking out from the knees up,but without seeing your DL I'm only speculating.
Deficit DL's are good for someone weak off the floor.
You might want to give Romanian DL's/Dimel DL's a try as assistance work for low back and they will also strengthen glutes and hams.
Good luck with your DLs!
