    torn supra-spinatus

    recently while swimming , i went to stroke with my left arm and as i was extending my arm i felt a hard pop in my shoulder. it hurts just below and between the middle deltoid and the posterior deltoid. my personal trainer said she suspected it was a torn supra spinatus. its been a month now and my shoulder has only improved a little and still hurts during my incline lifts. WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP MY SHOULDER HEAL UP? is this just a pulled muscle or is this possibly a serious injury?

    Rotator Cuff

    I had a pain in my shoulder for years, I never got it checked because it wasn't bad, almost non-existant until I started lifting weights, which made it worse, by the time I got it checked my supraspinatus was torn 50% of the way through and this happened over the space of like 2 months. The doc says its torn too bad for therapy and I need surgery now, but I am looking for other methods.

    My advice to you is not to do any shoulder exercises that involve heavy weight and to get it checked out immediately, you might need an MRI to see how bad it is. If it tears fully, then surgery is the only option and you will not even be able to lift your arm period.

    i had the same problem for 5 months now
    i stopped doing the inclines still now and at first took a week off from gym..it will be good for recovary..after that i did 2 weeks easy weights..now i can do all exercies except the inclines and the chest press

    if it injured, it probably won't heal. All you can do is manage it, which will mean be careful of things that will make it tear more, such as trying to swim with impingement.

    But you might get a ortho doctor to diagnose / MRI it.

    I think you should get a MRI and see a specialist on the matter, serious injuries don't seem to fade away. The sooner you get professional help, the sooner you'll get well. I know we all tendo to "lift around" an injury, but if it's handicapping, you should get professional help. Hope you get well soon..

    i have the same problem when it comes to bench, dips and military press.

    i would say get a scan done to see if there is any scar tissue etc in there. if you're ok, you should be able to pick up some bands and just work on it buy doing some light medial and lateral rotation of the shoulder.

    your trainer should have shown you these as they are a basic rehab exercise and really should be a staple of anyone's routine, especially if they want to lift heavy.

    Go see a physio or athletic trainer if you don't wanna go to a doctor to get an idea. If it is torn (not fully) you shouldn't need surgery, but you might wanna take it easy for a bit and definitely wanna rehab it, slowly, tearing a muscle is the last thing you want

    MRI Scan Suggested

    I think you should get an MRI Scan done immediately to know the exact reason and find an apt solution to the probem.
    I feel if it is injured, it may take much time to heal. All you can do is manage it, i mean you should take at most care of things that will make it tear more, such as trying to swim with impingement.

    But you might get a ortho doctor to diagnose / MRI it.

    Been there

    Get an MRI and see how big the tear is or if its a strain. Then you can make an educated plan as to how to heal/improve. Mine is a small tear and thera bands, and small dumbbells seem to be working for me. Big tears require surgery from what I understand. I saw two different doctors. One said operate and the other said physical therapy, but both said take the anti-imflammatory. There are several good workouts for the Rotator cuff online that I have seen. The anti imflammatory drugs get the swelling to go down which help the healing. I have a strain on my left and tear on the right shoulder. Then go about workouts trying not to irritate your shoulder, find what works for you and what doesn't. Takes a long time to get over. Learn to sleep on your other shoulder or on your back. Best of luck. Oh yea, your body is going to try to compensate for the pain so look out for other aches.
