Optimum Nutrition Melatonin

Optimum Nutrition Melatonin

Store: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/melatonin.html

Recommended dosage: As a dietary supplement take one tablet 30-60 minutes before bedtime, or use as directed by a physician or licensed nutritionist. Do not exceed one tablet within a 24-hour period..

Product Claims: Melatonin is a hormone produced in the body and secreted at night. Taken as a dietary supplement, it is designed to help combat lack of sleep and may be useful for jet-lag. N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine, or melatonin, is hormone produced naturally by the body in the pineal gland of the brain. The release of melatonin correlates with the body's cycle of day and night. The highest levels of the hormone are produced at night. Trace amounts of melatonin appears in foods. Melatonin may play an essential role in sleeping and immune system deficiencies. As light inhibits its production, and darkness stimulates it, melatonin regulates the body's internal clock. Double blind research shows that this hormone helps people sleep, shortens the number of awakenings in the night, and improves the quality of sleep. It is also very useful in treating jet lag, as it promotes quicker recovery from that "out of it" stage one may experience after extended periods of flight. Research has also shown that having enough melatonin exhibits positive psychological benefits on a person's mood, while a lack of melatonin corresponds to anxiety, fatigue, and hostility. Melatonin has also been investigated for its anti-aging potential.

Achieving the Claims: Just by taking Optimum Nutrition Melatonin, see for your self.

This Product is directed towards: Athletes, Body Builders, people who have trouble sleeping and anyone interested in the claims stated above.

Consuming: Take one tablet 30-60 minutes before bedtime.

Good/Bad value? Based on my personal experience, I would say it was a ok value. This product sits at a very nice price. 100 pills for under $2

Important Tip: Melatonin has been known to give people headaches. I too experienced one hell of a headache after my first dosage of this product. However, the next night there were no side affects.

Personal Experience after 30 days: I followed the directions just as the label directed. I enjoyed the deeper sleep I feel I gained by taking this product. Other than the headache I received from the first dosage there really was nothing bad about. Now to say that it improved my mood at is a little sketchy. Im never really thrilled to wake up at anytime early in the morning for school, especially on exam days. However, I did notice that I wasn?t as tried throughout the day as I normally am due to my poor sleeping habits. I actually felt a bit refreshed which isn?t common for me after waking up.

Personal Pros/Cons: Pros ? It?s a small pill, easy to take and is digested faster. You only need one, no taking 5+ pills to gain an effect from the product. Cons ?That headache was rough. I have to admit I even took some Advil and it did nothing for the headache I received and lost sleep that night.

Overall: 7/10

What if the only reason you toss around in bed for 3 hours is because of a supplement your taking? My first thought would be not to take something that makes you sleepy if your still buzzing off something that makes you awake. like taking uppers with downers. What do you think? bad idea for me to take this product?

Basicly im going to be taking Xtend for recovery and i go to sleep a hour and half to 2 hours after i work out, im a little worried if the b6 in the product is going to keep me up. If it dont.. all good, if it does, would this be a good solution?

Well first of all there is no real study that would prove that B6 (unless you consider the conversion of tryptophan ((an amino acid)) to niacin) would keep one awake for a certain amount of time, certainly with just 10mg of it. My advice would be just to take it before bed if your having any kind of trouble sleeping at that time frame. As for your power naps or rests, just by putting your self in a simple state of relaxation can do you a world of good, you dont have to go in a full body sleep just to recover.
