Austin has sold more merchandise than anybody else in the business. Yet The Rock is more of a household name. Most of that is due to him being an actor now. If he wasn't an actor, and was just a wrestler, I would say that they would be about tied - as far as who was a bigger name. Sometimes I feel like we got robbed as fans. For many reasons. 1. The Rock took off for hollywood. It really is such a sad deal. #2. The fact that the Austin/Mcmahon era happened at the same time as the nWo. Let's face it, once one was old news it would of been nice to switch the channel and see something awesome brand new. ...however.... it was the monday night wars that ignited such competition and great tv. Without WCW opening it's pockets we may not of ever seen the WWE enter the attitude era. And #3. The fact that the Rock and Steve Austin were around in the same era is a shame. What if The Rock didn't take off until 2002, and what if we got him for a good 5 years or so? Sometimes I feel it's a shame that 2 of the 3 biggest stars in this business were here at the same time, and pretty much left at the same time. ...Or is it? .... the fact that it did happen, made it exactly what it was. Absolutely F'N awesome. I often wonder "what if" to these things. However, I also wonder "what if" what did happen - never did. I supposse that would be the true shame.....

austin sold more merchandise than anyone else in the business in 1998, in fact he sold more than hogan had done in any previous year, however over their careers hogan easily outsold austin in merchandise, hogan was on top from 1984 right through till 1999 remember, austin was on top for about 4 years, huge difference.
1998 was a funny year the new age outlaws sold stupid amounts of merch and were second only to austin that year.
that was an awesome feud, then austin went from that to feuding with michaels and tyson (again amazing) and tops that by feuding with vince after that.

Hogan wasn't on top until 99. He became bland and boring late in his WWF run, he was the same bland and boring guy in WCW until he turned heel. He was lucky Eric Bischoff was infatuated with him, that's the only ****in reason he's made as much money as he had from wrestling. He's a ***got, plain and simple.

hogan was still on top like him or not, sure he got boring but plenty of people still bought into the real american gimmick in the 1990s he always headlined wcw shows in 1994 and 95 be it against flair, the giant, vader or whoever and people bought those ppvs no matter how bad the main events were, when wcw signed hogan in 1994 they went level with wwf almost overnight, hogan was the main guy in nwo too

You're absolutely right as always. I'm always wrong.
??? i rarely debate your posts, i say hogan was on top for 15 years, you don't agree, fair enough, we differ on opinion
No I'm serious. You're right Hogan was technically on top for that time span. Regardless if he "should" have been or not is irrelevant, facts are facts. You're speaking facts whereas I have a biased view on this subject because I'm a Stone Cold mark 4-lyfe.

he shouldn't have, it was disgraceful at times the way he held people back; wrestlemania 9 really pissed me off, it was yokos and brets time in the spotlight and hogan goes and makes a mockery of the whole thing, but people loved that sort of thing and its happening all over again with a certain HHH and people love him for doing the same thing
