Hey everyone this may seem a little complicated so bear with me.
I have noticed that my torso has an hourglass shape . At the narrowest part of my waist I measure 29.5'' and at my belly button I measure 31.5". I have come to the conclusion that I have NO upper obliques (where the obliques tie in with the bottom of my rib cage).
I have the same SHAPE as this kid: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/trans10b1.jpg
I've never done side bends b/c I've always heard it will destroy your V taper. Is there anything I can do to emphasize the upper part of my obliques so that my taper is a straight line all the way down to my hips instead of my hourglass figure? Anything to fill out this "gap" in my core?
The last thing I want to do is build up just my lower obliques which would only accentuate this problem.
If you need more information just ask! Thanks alot.

what others have said.
Gain 20 pounds of muslce and then evaluate your situation again.
And in my experience, obliques don't really have very much growth potential. But that apart, get big and your problem should be solved.
And looking at that kid...heck, even a gallon of ice-cream and fries would do him some good.

You could try implementing some rotation with some of your crunching movements.
However, some of this is going to be genetic - if you have a narrow and/or high ribcage yet are a bit wider through the hips (illiac crest), then that will tend to cause that look. But over time it can be minimized.

I think rather than doing oblique workouts, you need to work more on your back. Your obliques are probably there, you just cant see them cause they dont have a background. Do alot of upright rows and lat pulldowns. That will give you a v-shape rather than an hourglass shape.
The only rep that is effective is the one after you can't do anymore.
