Superset Question: Same muscle group vs. other muscle group

What's the actual purpose of supersets? Is it for growth, definition, time savings?

Also I believe an example of a normal superset is bench press for X reps and them immediately do flyes for Y reps. Take a little rest and repeat.

Has anyone had any sucess supersetting, but with another muscle group. As an example; bench press for X reps and then immediately do pull ups for Y reps. Then repeat again with no rest because to some extent you've rested your chest while you worked your back.

The purpose is intensity (and hopefully growth) and time saving for sure. You should try to complete a workout in 45-60 minutes anyway as studies show that hormones drop pretty sharply after that time. So supersetting would allow you to get more sets in.

I've tried supersetting bench with flyes, bench with back, and bench with tris. Depends on your goals, but all should be effective. Personally I like pairing it with back the most though.
-You have to do what others won't to achieve what others don't.

-There are no reps; only failure

Just noticed there's a "workout routine" forum, so I'll repost there since "exercise" is probably not the correct place.

If you still want to post, feel free though.

I just finished a compound superset routine that was AWSOME. I supersetted the same muscle group (hence compound sets). My muscles got a great workout and felt awsome by the end. The type of burn that you can achieve with supersets is crazy!
Control it or it will control you

For a Great Pump and Intensity. I sometimes superset Chest and Back, I feel like king kong walking around after 4 sets of bench and Pullups. Also Superset Biceps and triceps.

by definition a superset is an exercise immediately followed by an exercise working opposite muscles(ie db curls then skullcrushers) a compound set is when one would do something like a set of bench followed by a set of flies
