I have been lagging behind on my chest for a long time now. THe strength in my chest has grown considerably, but the size has not. I go to thinking, and I think I figured out why it hasen't been growing. I always do the same rep schime for chest. I do not change my cest workouts nearly as often as the other body parts.
So, would it benefit me to lighten up and go for more reps? I usually do DB press with 80 lbs in each hand for 7-9 reps. I do a total of 5-6 sets of presses at a variety of angles (flat, incline, decline).
I'm thinking of dropping to 60 lbs today and going for 15 reps for 6 or more sets.
Opinions?

Would a high rep chest day be beneficial?

Get into a bodybuilder mindset. Concern yourself with pump, feel, muscle isolation and mind-muscle connection. Get away from poundage greed or lifting the weight 'any which way'. Poundage is important but not at the expensive of sacrificing the above qualities. Use controlled and focussed muscular contractions to move the weight, not brute force.
"I not only don't use gloves, I file the skin off my palms before each workout. I also wrap double sided tape about the bar, sprinkle broken glass on it, dip it in acid, then wrap it in razor wire. I also plug the bar into an outlet, and stand in a bucket of water." - Defiant1

The smaller you set your goals the smaller you will achieve.

You can't tone. You can only gain muscle, lose muscle, gain fat or lose fat.

Phew! I did the high reps... Unfortunatly, the 60's were heavier than I thought and I could only get them up for 11-12 reps. Did 3 sets of incline, 2 sets of decline, then some cable flys (2 sets), then push-ups. Got a GREAT pump!
Then I went on to do my sholders and biceps. Overall a really good workout.
Thanks for all the help.
PS: All reps were 3 seconds down, 2 seconds up, 1 second pause.

wow well said...basically you have to do what works for you, and you will hear people tell you this more and more. You cant go by what other people experienced. I guess you can try it but overall you have to take what you've learned and aply it to your body's needs. If it feels good and you get a pump form it then ****in do it!!!! lol gl
