BBer's in Finance - What's your status?
I'm here...
I haven't caught a bullet yet...
I haven't jumped...
I haven't been to the gym in 3 weeks...
I'm still packing my lunches.
And the small muscles around my eyes and mouth are twitching uncontrollably.
I know of one other BBer in Tokyo, I'm sure there is more. If you are in Tokyo, with finance experience, and out of work, PM me. I know of two players in town with open headcount.
I might be out of the woods...

Gettin Healthy
Got laid off last February with a firm that I was with for 12 years as a civil engineer. 3 months passed - gained alot of weight. Got back on bb.com for motivation to get back into shape from my bb.com family. And then in the middle of June, got hired at Bechtel engineering.

METAL ABUSER
it has been a time of horrible stress. Every day I keep wondering if the hatchet will drop, I have my personal finances in about as good as shape as I can. I could ride out a six month layoff if worse came to worse, and that is only reason I can sleep at night. I would be lying if I said it has not affected my workouts. But lately I am realizing there is nothing i can do and just hopefully ride it out. I wish every one well and hope every can get through it ok.....
edit I forgot to add that I am so glad I prepaid my gym memebership until march of next year, just in case

I have the potential for a triple-whammy, if it ever comes down. I work in IT, for a Financial Services company, and I'm over 50. The one factor in my favor is that I'm in Information Security, which these days is a little safer than most other IT areas.
I never thought I'd be glad to see auditors running around

I couldn't disagree with you. I couldn't agree with you more than the fact that Western Pennsylvania is the most patriotic, most god-loving, most, most patriotic part of America, and this is a great part of the country."

Anybody in Ohio?

Any BBer's in Ohio? Anybody with job leads for Mavrick?
Mavrick, can you tell us a bit about yourself? So if somebody from the Ohio area can match up a lead they might know about with your history?
And everybody else, yes, these days are the suckage. I'm grateful, sad, miserable, relieved, afraid, sad again, and remembering the 90's with fondness. I want the 90's back.

I just got laid off on Tuesday. I am in IT on the administration side of things. I have enough to pay the rent for 2 months. Unemployment should help supplement that, but even if I get the max, it would barely cover rent by itself. Luckily I have a good bit of chicken and steak in the freezer.
I was in the job market last year as well. Last year I landed a job in 3 weeks. I am a bit more worried this year. However, my phone has been ringing and my email has been blowing up. I have some good bites. I have at least one interview next week. So I can say it's not as bad as 01-03. Back then I hardly ever got a call. Even the people at the unemployment office said IT is not doing so bad compared to other sectors.
m1k3g0rd, you may be able to take one strike off. From what I've noticed, if you have heavy Cisco and a lot of security experience there are quite a few jobs being posted. I want to break into security, but haven't the Cisco experience to be seriously considered.
Now I just need to find the motivation to get to the gym and not sit here and obsess over it or go to the pool to wait on a call. I don't want to be "that guy" in the gym who is carrying his cell phone around waiting for a potential employer to call. I could say "what''s an hour without the phone, they'll leave a voicemail." I think that will be next week. I'll take that time for myself and just return the calls after.

Hang in there mate. I really think you shouldn't obsess about where you take your mobile phone, from a "that guy" perspective. Who cares if you have a phone with you in the gym as long as you are hitting the weights hard?
It looks like we have people in need of work in:
Ohio - Mavrick
Atlanta, GA - Tallgntlmn
Anybody in these locations have appropriate leads for these guys?

Revmachine,
I'm in Osaka, running my own little English-language school, and times here are tough. Since NOVA went under, I know a lot of teachers who have given up and gone home and it's not a pretty sight. These are people who lost everything, can't get hired due to their age, status, whatever, and they just gave up. Sad, really sad.
I've come close to closing up shop here a couple of times and think about doing something else, but I still have my hopes. The next two years will see. I just keep on keeping on, still work out, and do my best. In the end, that's all we can do.

Cute name... I get it :-)
Although it's hard to see, I think we are lucky to be in Japan. The US is going to have a tough time and I'm afraid there's no going back. Take care.

I work in finance in the UK - we're just starting to see the real pain of this one. Lots of people worried but all you can do is react if the worse does happen. Not great - but hey - good luck to you guys out there!
