MYTH: Immigrants are a financial burden on taxpayers.
* While the myth that undocumented immigrants are an economic drain is widespread, “Every empirical study of illegals’ economic impact demonstrates the opposite…; undocumenteds actually contribute more to public coffers in taxes than they cost in social services.” (Peter L. Reich, “Public Benefits for Undocumented Aliens: State Law Into the Breach Once More,” 21 N.M. L. Rev. 219, 241–42. 1991)
* Undocumented immigrants are ineligible for most federally funded benefits including cash assistance, food stamps, and SSI. (Office of Human Services Policy, Department of Health and Human Services)
* A study by economists Richard Vedder, Lowell Gallaway, and Stephen Moore found that states with relatively high immigration actually experience low unemployment. The economists believed that it is likely immigration opens up many job opportunities for natives. (Richard Vedder, Lowell Gallaway, and Stephen Moore, “Immigration and Unemployment: New Evidence,” Alexis de Tocqueville Institution, Arlington, VA. Mar. 1994.)
A recent study by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) found: Medi-Cal patients are more likely than uninsured or privately insured Californians to visit hospital emergency departments for conditions that could be treated in a clinic or doctor’s office . . . [I]immigrants are not crowding the state’s emergency rooms – in fact, foreign-born Californians who are not U.S. citizens are among the least likely to seek treatment in the ER

nice make believe fluff.
"Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion)."

Basically what it breaks down to is these illegals are seeking healthcare. This healthcare costs money, most of them are not rich. If they are not on Medicad the hospital never recieves any money for the tests, treatments, ect. Basically they eat the cost. If they have Medicad the hospital does see some money. This is a real problem because hospitals can not refuse care to anyone. **** what to do.

Not necessarily.
When the kid reaches 21 he has the option of becoming US citizen.
Not all immigrants stay in US. Significant portion do go back cus of improved conditions and mostly for cultural and family ties.
More importantly, at the rate things are going, US is in desperate need of youngsters to pay welfare programs of aging baby boomers.

Anyone who could sign their name could have gotten home loan during subprime lending fiasco. Lenders WANTED to give away loans. Thats different from qualifying for government handouts.
The average immigrant pays $1,800 more in taxes than she receives in government benefits -- a lifetime tax contribution of $80,000 more than she and her immediate descendents receive in benefits. Undocumented immigrants alone are estimated to have contributed nearly $50 billion in federal taxes between 1996 and 2003. Immigrant tax contributions finance vital middle-class goods like public schools and Social Security.

"Based on Census Bureau data, this study finds that, when all taxes paid (direct and indirect) and all costs are considered, illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion in 2002. We also estimate that, if there was an amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly $29 billion"

your link is one of the more biased links i have ever seen. Its like when all the pot heads quote high times.
It is universally recognized that immigrants cost our government MUCH more than they pay in taxes. The only question is if there cheap labor offsets that. Some say yes. Alot say they have no positive on the economy at all.Last edited by jack90; 09-17-2008 at 05:52 PM.

There is a hospital on the Texas border where the deliver 16,000 babies a year like that. Not only are US taxpayers paying for that, but they are stuck paying for the schooling (up until most of them drop out of high school), and the welfare costs and the prison/police costs, etc., forever onward.
The liberals like to point to Europe as an example to follow in many things, BUT most of Europe doesn't give citizenship just because your illegal parents gave birth to a baby there. Let's adopt that policy. Let's also adopt the immigration laws that Mexico itself practices - look those up for some good common sense on immigration, and be in for a hell of a surprise.

Rethinking Birthright Citizenship
by Ron Paul
"A recent article in the Houston Chronicle discusses the problem of so-called anchor babies, children born in U.S. hospitals to illegal immigrant parents. These children automatically become citizens, and thus serve as an anchor for their parents to remain in the country. Our immigration authorities understandably are reluctant to break up families by deporting parents of young babies. But birthright citizenship, originating in the 14th amendment, has become a serious cultural and economic dilemma for our nation.
In some Houston hospitals, administrators estimate that 70 or 80% of the babies born have parents who are in the country illegally. As an obstetrician in south Texas for several decades, I can attest to the severity of the problem. It?s the same story in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. And the truth is most illegal immigrants who have babies in U.S. hospitals do not have health insurance and do not pay their hospital bills.
This obviously cannot be sustained, either by the hospitals involved or the taxpayers who end up paying the bills.
No other wealthy, western nations grant automatic citizenship to those who simply happen to be born within their borders to non-citizens. These nations recognize that citizenship involves more than the physical location of one?s birth; it also involves some measure of cultural connection and allegiance. In most cases this means the parents must be citizens of a nation in order for their newborn children to receive automatic citizenship.

That report is flawed because it includes medicaid and other welfare programs as cost of undocumented immigrants. Although few paragraphs down, it specifically states they don't qualify for it. Not to even mention the method by which CIS identifies illegals. Basically if you're a LEGAL immigrant, without veteran status, and didn't receive any government handouts, YOU'RE ILLEGAL in CIS eyes. Way to be unbiased.

Mainly through faurd or programs where the government doesn't ask about citizenship or doesn't check up on fake info.
Schools for one are not allowed to ask about citizenship, that includes the free breakfast/lunch/summer programs.
Hospitals cannot turn anyone away by law, they don't eat the losses they pass them on.

5-24-2007 Harry Reid votes to fund a war he believes is lost

Don't get me wrong, I am all for border security. Lets clamp down the entire border now.
But don't you think its double faced to call for law enforcement when they cross the border and call the law to be changed when they claim citizenship as people who were born here? I mean, they are following the law as its written, after all.

I agree. We are making it too attractive for people to cross the border illegally. It's a messy situation though as I suppose they don't want to send a newborn child back to Mexico...which I guess some view as punishing the innocent which is why the law is the way it is to begin with.

I cant even read this stuff because it just makes me upset and it ruins my day. When are we going to get these people out of our country? When are we going to stop paying for them to ruin the quality of our lives? When will a politician come along who actually cares about Americans, and ends immigration and closes the borders, also kicking out the ILLEGAL ALIENS? We need to stand up before it's too late.

I would do it if I knew it would make a difference. All Americans would have to participate but I dont see anyone on TV advocating this. No one wants to "offend anyone". We need more than boycotting, although it would be good to do as well. We need a major movement that can make a difference but I just dont see it happening. Did you see the projected 2050 census?...it makes me sick.
