Why do you do keto?
Help me decide if this diet is for me. Please give me your top reasons for doing keto. Effectiveness? Control of hunger? Because you like the food?
Thanks

1. Carb based diets make me fat- which is enough for me to avoid them.
2. Carb based diets make me sleepy.
3. Carb based diets had me always thinking about my next meal.
4. Carb based diets had my triglycerides off the chart high.

Consistency! My mood is consistent. My energy level is consistent. I used to fall asleep at work, yell at my wife and kids for no reason, never want to exercise, and feel hungry all the time. NO MORE!
Been doing keto for years now. Sure, I fall off the wagon every now and then, eat high-carb crap, feel bad for a week or two, go back to keto, and feel great again. After a few times of doing that, it isn't hard to motivate myself to stick with keto.

sleep better
eat all the food I grew up with (my dad was a butcher so meat three times a day was quite common)
I sleep better, work out just as hard , I actually have to force feed myself to put on weight, rather than eating all day long and feeling hungry.
Sex is great;-)
Got heaps of energy to hang out with my kids, my kids are thriving on this type of eating, they love to tell me stories of their friends at school who tell them fat is bad for you and you shouldn't eat too much protein, unfortunately these are generally overweight kids.
I feel stronger now (though not actually as I am only back in training for 6 mnths after a couple years or so off) than I did when I was training at 24.
I actually need less sleep.
Get sick less.
eat ****loads of bacon, fatty steak and two tubs of 45% cream on most days as a treat in my coffee and on my low carb home made jelly.
Low triglycerides, no fatty liver,
did I mention the sex?
I use to laugh at my dad, back in the mid eighties cause he would cook his eggs floating in butter, almost never ate veggies and lived on steak, he laughs at me now.
Someone earlier mentioned being calmer, well I can vouch for that not only with myeslf but with people and kids I have seen go on this type of eating plan.
I get sick if I eat too many carbs these days and feel like I have a hangover. Never happens on meat.
I have had friends and family finally start to eat this way and they can't believe the weight loss and the fun that goes back into eating.
Give it a decent try and see how you go.

Forgot another great thing: In the morning, I can get out of bed the first time the alarm rings, instead of hitting the snooze alarm repeatedly as I slowly awaken from my overnight insulin coma!

yeah, x2 here... I have much more restful sleep @ 7-8 hours on keto than 10+ on carb-heavy or carb centric diets...
Although I've got to be sure to piss before sleeping or I'll be up at 4 in the morning... Especially since I like to take those pre bed casein shakes.

Thanks for all the responses. I tried Atkins back in college and I felt exhausted all the time, but I think I was consumming too much protein because I was still "fat phobic." I also wasn't training or counting calories so I had limited success. I'll be interesting to see what happens if I do it the right way...
So why is the sex better?

It's not that it is better, it is the fact you are thinner, more mobile and you can get back into the the olympic vault moves in bed again.

Just pound the fat! and to get used to it, you can try counting calories and making sure you're below maintenance until it seems natural.
I just started keto (again) a few days ago....not sure if I'll continue to do it cause the intensity isn't quite the same in the gym -- but I feel SO good, It took me coming off of heavy carbs only about 24 hours to get into KETO and I look better, feel better, sleep better already and it's like my body is saying "we're home!".
I can't speak to the sex part - but i would imagine that the saturated fat promotes more testosterone (and even some, maybe insignificant - maybe not, in women as well) and that gets the libido going.
Atkins IMO is a plan to fail if you exercise; the carbups are really important to keep you strong and intense.

1. I have steadier amounts of energy throughout the day. I used to get VERY fatigued...not just normal tiredness, but this mindnumbing fatigue. Keto seems to have taken care of this a lot. Even eating low amounts of healthy carbs (brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal), I seem to get fatigued and feel generally crappy.
2. My moods are better, I think because I'm no longer fatigued all the time! lol. I get so irritable when tired.
3. I'm never hungry.

The fats keep my skin clear and non-greasy and my moods are more stable (yes bipolar) and strangely my pains are less intense and i feel almost normal (yes fibromyalgia)
also the droping weight like a ton of bricks, and all the yummy foods, and having people look at you like your mad when your eating bacon, eggs, butter and cheese and saying its "heath food"

1. Tried the carb diet, and worked extremely well for losing fat and adding muscle, but my body stopped responding after months of dieting. Decided to try something new.
2. MOOD! Low carb makes you the evilest person known in the realm of demons! So far, on Keto, I smile at least twice a day! haha
3. Satiety: I'm iffy on this, but when I first started keto, I could go for 3 hours without eating. Now I'm back to 2 (similar to carb diet). When I say 2 hours, I mean, I'm hungry 20 minutes after my last meal but can hold out till the 2 hours mark.
4. Peanut butter. 'nuff said.
5. Food choices: Even though I became a great chef on the carb diet, I don't have to be as imaginative on Keto. Just grab some lean meats, dump cheese on them, and voila!
6. Peanut butter.

Well, given that I'm still new to it, and that I came from an ultra-low fat, low-carb diet, I'm still having problems convincing myself to get high fats.
But here goes:
Morning:
Isolate shake + 2 whole eggs + 4 egg whites + 5 gm fish oils + 1 tablspoon pb
Snack:
Shake with cinnamon + 2 tablespoon peanut butter
Lunch:
200 gms Extra lean beef + 60 gms shredded cheese OR 1 tablspoon PB and 1 tablespoon cream cheese
Snack:
1 Chicken breast + 30 gms shredded cheese.
Pre-workout drink
Superpump250 + L-cartinine
Post workout meal:
Shake for quick aminos (Isolate)
200 gms extra lean beef with 30 gms shredded cheese
Pre-Sleep
9 egg whites + 2 tablspoon peanut butter.
Everyone keeps telling me to raise my fats; I'll try it, but I told them that if I gain weight I'm gonna hunt them down.
