Need advice for a friend having trouble with alcohol
I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for me...I just recently started dating someone and he is going through a lot of stress right now. He is dealing with his stress with alcohol. I've confronted him about it and he wants to stop but he keeps on going out and drinking almost every night. Can anyone help me?

Unless you're a professional this is only going to end badly for you if you keep interfering. Get someone who knows what they're doing involved.

My dad was an alcoholic and he did the same thing, I found that best way to get someone to stop using alcohol as a coping strategy is to show them how much it hurts/negatively affects you. It's hard for them to stop once they've started though, and liek Shike said, it isn't the easiest thing for them either to stop even if they want to

alcoholics can't see a problem until they hit rock bottom, you can try to create that bottom

Without professional help it's highly unlikely he will ever quit. I had drinking problems and was lucky enough to be put into a situation where I was forced to quit drinking.

I thought that too. When I was 20 I began drinking everyday. I thought I would stop by the time I was 22, then I said just 1 more year of drinking, then another. Now I'm 26 and can no longer drink due to financial situations. It's the best thing that ever happened to me. I really should have seeked AA or detox at some point though.

well he needs to see the negative consequences of his actions. losing his job, losing his girlfriend.
i re-read your post and you said he recently started drinking to deal with the stress, so is it just a night thing? or does he do it througout the day to cope with life? unless it starts ruining his life, he will not see its a problem because its not a problem. If he's not an alcoholic, then its best to let him deal with the stress his way, even if its not your ideal method.
You could find alternatives to his stress relieve. i don't know him so i don't know what will work.
