gettin back in shape for wrestling

hey guys, i was just wonderin if any of you could help me out. this is my senior year and i really want to do good this year. so basically my question is what is a way to get in shape without losing much muscle if none at all. over the summer ive gotten alot bigger/stronger and i want to use it for my season. what i usually do is run alot to get in shape but then i tend to lose alot of muscle. so if someone knows some methods such as some cross training that can get me in shape with minimal muscle loss i would appreciate it.

thanks
andrew vrabel

well in all honesty bro the way to get in shape for wrestling is to wrestle

wrestling & sprints. make sure you're eating protein every meal. long distance running will get you used to the long practices... but it won't get you ready for the 6 minutes in a match.

keep up the weight lifting and add sprints in there.

Find schools in your area that are holding open practices and go to them whenever you can.

As far as cardio, 200-400m sprints, uphill runs, and of course wrestling.

It's easy to say you want to get in shape, it's not easy to do that hard ass work.

all the responses have been good. wrestling clubs- hard drilling or live wrestling, sprints, lifting (barbell circuits, kettlebells, sledgehammers, sandbag training), are all going to help you get conditioned. mix it up, don't stay with one thing too long. one thing to remember is that even if you start out at 4 minutes of sprints/live wrestling/hard drilling/etc. work to PASSED 6 minutes. if you're conditioned for 9 minutes, 6 minutes shouldn't seem as hard.

Everyone else pretty much has hit it on the button. If you are ever stuck inside a simple one using a treadmill is to war up for 3-4 minutes then
1.5 minutes at 4 mph
1 minute at 8 mph
1.5 minutes at 4 mph
1 minute at 10 mph
repeat 4 times and do not rest on the rails. Another one I borrowed from ross training is burpees for 30 secs and then shadow wrestling for 30 secs, repeat until 2 minutes have gone by. Rest 1 minute. Try to do 6 rounds at first.
