Velocity XT 2.0!!!
September 11......
Its hard to believe but 7 years have past since that very surreal and very tragic day transpired. Its something I'll never forget and don't intend to. My thoughts and well wishes go out to the families of the thousands of people who lost there lives on that day. Just figured I'd start this thread as a means to reflect.

Red, white and blue forever!

i'll never forget how scared i was that day for the person i know who worked in the World Trade Center. i have read tons about that day; from terrorist theories to conspiracy theories, and no matter the author everyone agrees - this tragedy changed our generation forever.

I will never forget that terrible day and watching the twin towers fall. Without even knowing a single person who was there and being all the way across in Alaska my heart broke. I cried like I have never cried watching people throw themselves out of the buildings to escape the fires. Those images will always be burned in my mind. I will never forget that day nor those that lost their lives. God Bless them and their families.

Sometimes I can be a dick
Its one of those things that you know where you were when it happened. In our generation we've had some, but none as deeply impacting as 9/11.
My parents would say some of theirs were when we first landed on the moon, the day Kennedy was shot, etc.
Sinners in the hands of an angry Mod.

I remember 9/11, but I remember 4/19 more vividly. The OKC bombing. I heard the blast almost 15 miles away. You really remember things when they hit close to home.

Exactly. I also believe the Columbine shootings were on 4/20 (different year then OKC of course).

Shredding!
Its quite obvious that alot of America isnt as patriotic as they were when the whole 9/11 took place. Looking back you really couldnt go anywhere without flags flying and people praising the military. Now you really dont see the flags fly high anymore and most places you go( if your in the military ) your known as the child killer, Baby murderer, *** enabler, puppy murderer, a whole bunch of goofy non sense. I just dont understand it all. I see it all the time members of our armed forces convicted for murder, going to jail for long periods of time and never to see their family again because they are fighting an evil that endorsed such criminal activities as those that happened on 9/11. You better believe though that on this day everyone is going to get all patriotic and support the military and love what we are doing and thank people for their freedom...A couple weeks down the road its back to the same bull****. We go back to being those horrible criminals that alot of society is trying to put behind bars for simply doing their job and enabling us to sleep peaceful at night.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
was definitely a day that changed the course of my life as I was finishing up one last class that semester prior to commissioning in the Army...I knew right then that it wouldn't be long before I was on a plane bound for somewhere...

Something I must add..Today doing morning colors, my company was inside..We were going over some things we had to do for the day and as soon as colors was sounded, being as it was 9/11 every marine in that discussion jumped up and ran outside to stand and salute the national ensign as it was hoisted to the top of the flag pole and back down to half mast. I must admit, seeing the colors rise and fall, much like the towers and those who have gone before us have it definately brought a tear to my eye. Definately had a surge of patriotic feeling flowing through my veins. All in all it felt damn good to stand there silent, beginning the day remembering all those that have fallen during 9/11 and supporting 9/11..

And the Waco siege ended 4/19, and 4/20 is Adolph Hilter's birthday. There are theories that these events influenced the Columbine shooters, but we'll never know.

Tired of being small
I was in sixth grade and none of my teachers let me know what was going on when most other kids did and were freaking out and saying the school was going to blow up. I had no idea the severity of it till I got home.
Always remember!

Patriotism isn't always a good thing, it often usurps rationality and compassion. The reason we see less flags flying isn't because people's hearts have forgotten the tragedy of 9/11 but because their nerves have been overwhelmed and burnt out by the deluge of political-economic bull**** that has been spinning out of control since then. Things haven't worked out and people are jaded, perhaps with good reason.
And yes, I remember exactly how that day went for me. In tenth grade, school just started, and when I turned on the news that morning both towers still stood. In the garage I caught Jim as he was leaving for work and said, "The World Trade Center is burning... I think. You better check it out, they said something about a plane crashing into it." Confusion. Of course Jim understood what it meant in ways I couldn't, being an ex-military man with a good six decades of life behind him. I watched the second plane hit with no comprehension of how serious it was. Between the time it took me to leave home and arrive at school, the towers had fallen. There wasn't a single classroom that didn't have it's TV tuned in to some news channel.

Not everyone thinks like that. I know I don't. This day however is greater than the Armed Forces. Its about thousands of people who were murdered by acts of terrorism.

OKC bombing was done on the 2nd anniversary of the siege at Waco. I always thought it was 4/20, but maybe I am wrong.
Edit: Yes, I was wrong. Thanks for clarifying.

Please leave. This thread is not for that. It is a way for us to all give our condolences and respect to both those who lost their lives that day, as well as their families.
Also, a good day to remember all of my fellow military members that have given their lives so people like yourself can speak freely.
RIP to those killed at WTC.
